Searching for a wedding photographer in Tuscany inside a Facebook group like "Wedding in Italy" or "Destination Wedding Planning" often means getting dozens of random recommendations from strangers within hours.

Most of whom have never actually worked in the region themselves.

A real Tuscany wedding photographer needs to understand the local light, know the venues personally, have experience with local wedding planners, and be able to handle language differences, time zones, and unexpected moments on the day itself.

Choosing who documents the most important day of your life shouldn't come down to an anonymous comment in a Facebook group. 📩💍

Mirja and Peter were from Sweden. They'd never even set foot in Tuscany before choosing it for their wedding.

The night before, I called her. Not for logistics she'd already sorted all of that herself. I just wanted her to hear a familiar voice before waking up in a country that wasn't hers, surrounded by people who weren't her family.

We talked about why they'd chosen Tuscany, what she was afraid of losing in translation, and what she hoped to feel instead.

The next morning, when Peter saw her walking toward him, I wasn't thinking about angles. I was thinking: this is the moment she was scared she'd miss.
She didn't miss it.

Their review afterward: "You made a foreign country feel like home for one day. We didn't just get photos back we found someone who understood what this day meant to us before we could even put it into words."

That's the part of this work people don't see. Long before I photograph a wedding in Tuscany, I try to make sure it still feels like theirs even from far away.

❤️ Sometimes an intimate wedding is so intimate that it is just for the couple.

No friends, no relatives.

Because an intimate wedding is something deeply personal, and everyone should experience it exactly how they want.

This couple decided to exchange their vows in Tuscany, without anyone else there, no family, no friends, just the two of them and a photographer to document these truly private moments.

And how do you imagine your intimate wedding in Tuscany?

Choosing a wedding photographer from a gallery is harder than it looks because every gallery is curated to show the best conditions, the best light, the most iconic Tuscan backdrops.

What you actually want to know is harder to see: whether this photographer can find the real moments, not just wait for the obvious ones. Whether they hold up when the conditions aren't perfect. Whether the people in the photos feel like themselves, or like they're posing.

Look at the eyes. Look at the in-between frames. Look at what they've done inside a dark church or in the middle of an overcast afternoon. That's where real skill shows.

After years of shooting in Tuscany with couples from all over the world, in every season and every condition, I've learned that the portfolio is just the starting point. The conversation that follows tells you everything else.

An intimate wedding is all about connection. It’s a small, close-knit group of favorite people celebrating love without too much fuss. What truly matters is being present, sharing deep feelings, and creating memories together. ✨

But here is an honest truth: the presence of a photographer can change everything. If they aren’t the right fit, you risk ruining your experience. Because that’s what your wedding day is—a deeply personal experience with the people who matter most. 🤍

A great photographer needs to be more than just a skilled professional. They need exceptional empathy. They need to blend in, understand your emotions, and respect your space.

Photos are important, of course. But if a photographer ruins the atmosphere of your day, what matters more to you? 📸

There's a part of my work that never appears in the gallery and it might be the most important part.
It starts weeks before the wedding.

A real conversation, not a brief check-in. Getting to know how a couple actually is together: what makes them comfortable, what makes them tense, what they're hoping for and what they're quietly worried about.

For international couples, there's often an extra layer. The distance, the unfamiliar logistics, the fact that they're trusting someone they've never met in person with the most significant day of their lives. That trust doesn't come automatically.
It's built through time and attention.

By the time the wedding morning arrives, I'm not a stranger walking in. I'm someone they already know and that changes everything about how the day feels, and how the photos turn out.

There’s something beautiful about a wedding that feels like it truly belongs to you.

A villa, a small circle of people you love, long conversations around the table, quiet moments, laughter, and the freedom to actually be present.

No need for a huge guest list.
No need to fill every moment.

And when a wedding is this intimate, who you choose to photograph it matters even more.

The photographer is not just someone documenting the day. They become part of the atmosphere , someone who needs to know when to step closer, when to step back, when to guide you, and when to simply let a moment happen.

Because when everyone is close, you don't just see the photographer. You feel their presence.

For me, that's why empathy matters just as much as the photographs themselves.

Just the people who matter, a beautiful place, and a photographer you can truly feel comfortable with.
That’s the beauty of an intimate wedding in Italy.

If this is the kind of wedding you’re dreaming of, I’d love to hear what you’re planning.
Tell me about your people, your place, and what matters most to you.

Most couples book a photographer expecting beautiful images. What they don't expect is how much the right photographer shapes the whole experience of the day.

Not in an intrusive way. In the quieter way of someone who's been here many times before  who knows when the light is about to change, who can read the room when someone needs a moment, who already has a relationship with the other vendors and knows how to keep everything moving without anyone noticing.

That kind of presence doesn't make it into the contract. But it's in every wedding I shoot. And it's almost always what couples mention when they look back.

Tuscany is extraordinary on its own. What I bring is knowing it well enough to make your day inside it feel completely effortless.

Kelsey and Sean hadn't found the right photographer yet. Then, three weeks before flying to Italy, they messaged me.

Kelsey and Sean were getting married in Tuscany, an ocean away from everyone they knew back in the US.

They were still looking for the right photographer, but none of the people they spoke with truly matched the experience they wanted for their wedding day.

Three weeks before the wedding, they reached out to me. They didn't have a clear reason. Just a feeling they hadn't found the right person yet, and very little time left to decide.

We had one call. Not a sales pitch, but a genuine conversation about how they wanted their day to feel, once you set aside the flights, the vendors, and the time difference.

It was a small ceremony, with only their closest family members who had flown to Italy for the occasion. No second takes, no do-overs everyone was there for one day only, thousands of miles from home.

By the end of our conversation, Kelsey and Sean asked for something I don't always suggest myself: a full wedding album.

Not to show it off, but because they wanted something tangible to take home with them. A reminder that all of it had really happened, in a place none of them had grown up in.

Their message after the wedding was:

"We were looking for the right photographer, and we realized we'd found him. You made us feel like our wedding mattered to you just as much as it mattered to us—even from the other side of the world."

That's the kind of trust I try to build with every couple who crosses an ocean to get married here.

It's not just about documenting the day. It's about making sure it still feels like their wedding, even in a country that isn't their own.

If you're planning your wedding in Tuscany from the US and want to talk things through before making a decision, reach out. No pressurejust a conversation.

There's a version of your Tuscany wedding where nothing catches anyone off guard where the light is handled, the timing flows, and the day unfolds exactly as it should. And there's a version where even small surprises become problems, because the person behind the camera is figuring things out as they go.

The difference often comes down to one question: have you actually worked here before?

Knowing a venue  its light at different hours, its difficult corners, its rhythm on a wedding day changes everything. It means I'm already standing in the right place before the moment happens. Not rushing to catch up with it.

Years of working across Tuscany mean I've solved most problems before they're problems. That doesn't show in the portfolio. But it shows in every photo.

👉 Save this if you're choosing between photographers and want to know the right questions to ask.
