Early this morning, we received some of the worst news, as of 3am my husband’s airline was winding down operations.
We’d been cautiously optimistic that they were going to make it through this storm, I mean they’ve been around 43 years, they couldn’t actually not survive right? And after giving 10 years to a company and making it through crummy 1st (& 2nd & 3rd) year pay, and the reserve blocks, we really didn’t want to start over (going to another airline isn’t a linear move, it’s starting all over at the bottom).
But storm after storm kept coming (Covid, engine recalls, a war that doubled fuel prices overnight), finally it just became too much. They sent out the letter at about 2:30 am, officially letting us know, that was it. The banana planes would no longer fly after 3am.
And for as much crap as they got, overall, they were a great company to work for. Great quality of life, great benefits, great crews. All of that matters so much when it comes to a job that takes you away from your family so often. So we didn’t want to leave. We went down with the ship.
And I’m not going to lie, yesterday was tough. Today is tough. The next probably weeks (months? few years?) are going to be tough. I know there’s a reason bigger than I can see right now for why this happened. But right now it’s hard. I know this isn’t forever, it will get better, but man this hurts. And I think what’s worse is not having closure. Maybe not for my husband, maybe he doesn’t care. But like so many things in life, sometimes you don’t realize when it’s the last time you’re going to do something. And when he walked off his plane the other day, he had no idea it would be his last time in the big yellow planes. I don’t know, that breaks my emotional heart.
Anyway, that’s it, the big sad update. Sorry to be a downer, but I wanted to let you all know what was going on. I know social media looks all perfect all the time, but it’s definitely not.
I also wanted to ask for your support, whether that’s booking a session with me, or recommending me to someone you may know who is looking for a session. It would mean so much to me and my family while we navigate this crazy journey.
