3rd Prize for Best Series in 2nd edition of Black&White International Award Rome.
I started this project on the 27th of August, 3 days later the first big earthquake. I went to Amatrice as volounteer and photographer.
The people slept in tents or camper, without water or electricity. People were scared to sleep because the first big earthquake was in the night. Their fear is kept alive by memories of 24 august.
The loss of family and friends is terrible.
During this experience it was difficult for me to provide help and comfort to the victims and photograph their private places and persons with respect.
Autumn comes and the earth continues to shake.
I went again to Amatrice in October. The people are tired, Winter is coming and they still don't have homes.
Heavy snow arrives in January, as well as more rain, low temperatures and continuing tremors across the region.
Winter is over, Spring arrives. Flowers are born, trees are green, but everything else is grey. Destroyed buildings are grey, inhabited buildings are grey, the people are grey.
Photography I proposed was taken during these days: the nature reborn, people just lost the will to live.
