Maybe it is because of the covid-19 pandemic, which makes it extra rewarding to be able to travel again. Maybe it is because I haven’t been able to visit my beloved Cuba for one and a half year. Maybe it is because I needed a break of my life behind a computer, trying to make a living as a photographer -a paradox in itself, but unfortunately the other side of the coin-. Anyway, I loved the past two weeks in Sicily so much. The heat, the informal street culture in cities like Palermo and Catania, the peeling painted houses and close to Caribbean beaches like Fontana Biancha. Within Europe, I cannot imagine a place more similar to Cuba than Sicily. This morning we had a stroll at the Catanian fish market, before flying back over the Etna, to our Dutch calm and green street in Arnhem. Feeling lucky today. ©SanneDerks2021
