Join us this evening for cincinzin’s solo show Screenshots From A Series Of Videos About A Rice Field And Its Surroundings, opening at PhMuseum Lab 🎏

Cintia Tortosa Santisteban’s gaze unconsciously enters into dialogue with several core concepts of Japanese culture. On one hand, nichijō (日常), a term that refers to daily life and the wonder of the ordinary. On the other, mono no aware (物の哀れ), an expression describing a profound awareness of the ephemeral nature of things. In this context, time is not conceived solely as a linear progression, but as a continuous cycle dictated by the turning of the seasons, Shiki (四季).

The images collected by the artist capture this very cyclical dimension of experience, transforming daily repetition into an exercise in observation and memory.

Selected through the PhMuseum 2025 Women Photographers Grant, Tortosa Santisteban’s work will be on display from 18 June to 4 October, as part of the fifth edition of the PhMuseum Days international photography festival.

We are waiting for you from 6pm at PhMuseum Lab, in Via Paolo Fabbri 10/2a, Bologna

SAVE THE DATE 🌾 18 JUNE // Exhibition Opening // Screenshots From A Series Of Videos About A Rice Field And Its Surroundings by cincinzin from 6pm at PhMuseum Lab – Via Paolo Fabbri 10/2a, Bologna, Italy.

Cintia Tortosa Santisteban’s project began in May 2021, when she moved to Kanagawa, Japan, to work as a local school teacher. From the balcony of her fifth-floor apartment, which overlooked a rice field, she started recording short videos to share on Instagram for distant friends. It was only three years later, during her daily train commutes to work, that the artist began taking screenshots of her favorite frames.

A school of children crossing the street, passersby on bicycles, laborers tending to the rice crops: minimal, seemingly insignificant moments become the focus of a reflection on daily life, belonging, and the process of integrating into a new cultural context.

Selected through the PhMuseum 2025 Women Photographers Grant, the exhibition will be on display from 18 June to 4 October, offering a preview of the fifth edition of PhMuseum Days international photography festival, scheduled to take place from 1–4 October 2026.

TOMORROW 14 APRIL 🤸🏼‍♀️ We’ll welcome for Performative Books, an encounter with and around three of her books – Image act (2025), Moisés (2022) and The Two Headed Horse (2021).

Her practice is drawn to a notion proposed by Erika Fischer–Lichte in Aesthetics of the Performative: "Instead of creating works, artists produce events in which not only themselves are involved, but also the recipients, the observers, listeners and spectators. With this, the conditions of artistic production and reception are modified in a crucial aspect."

Admission is free. See you at PhMuseum Lab with Sancari tomorrow at 6.30pm 🌻🍻
