In this magnificent relief, you see the great sitting on his , adorned with his famous crenellated . In front of the great Sasanian king, two figures are depicted.
The standing figure whose hand the king of Iran holds as a sign of captivity is , the Roman ; and the person kneeling before the king's horse is , the Roman Emperor, who came to seek peace and end the wars between Iran and Rome, paying tribute with five hundred thousand to the Iranian kingdom.
The standing figure behind Emperor Shapur I of Sasanian is Kartir, the chief priest, and the details of this event are inscribed as an inscription on the back and tail of Shapur's horse.
The necropolis of Naqsh-e Rustam, carved into the mountain near during the Achaemenid era, houses the tombs of four great Achaemenid kings and their family members.
