Wondering how much an epic Iceland Ring Road trip actually costs from India? Here is the exact per-person breakdown for our group of 4!
Traveling in a group is the ultimate hack to making Iceland affordable while still experiencing the absolute best the country has to offer. We rented a Toyota RAV 4 and hit the road.
Here is the per-person breakdown:
✈️ Flights & Visa: ₹85,000
This covers the round-trip flights from India to Keflavík and the mandatory Schengen Visa (approx. ₹7,200 for the visa fee, plus VFS service charges). Book flights at least 3-4 months in advance to get the best price!
🚙 The Rental Car: ₹25,000 (Total was 100K)
Pro-Tip: DO NOT skimp on insurance. You absolutely need Sand and Dust Insurance. The Icelandic winds are notoriously wild, and even a single scratch from flying gravel can cost more than the entire rental itself!
⛽ Fuel: ₹25,000 (Total was 1 Lakh)
Yes, gas is expensive. But splitting it 4 ways makes a road trip the best way to see the country.
🏡 Accommodation: ₹50,000 (Total was 2 Lakhs)
This covered our stays around the entire Ring Road circuit.
🧊 Epic Activities: ₹20,000
This included an unforgettable Ice Cave tour and Whale Watching in the north.
♨️ Geothermal Lagoons: ₹15,000
Because you can’t go to Iceland without soaking in the famous thermal baths.
🛒 Food & Groceries: ₹20,000 - ₹30,000
We balanced our budget by grocery shopping (shoutout to Bónus supermarkets!) and treating ourselves to a few meals out.
Total Per Person (approx.): ₹2,42,500
