Vasanta College for Women, established by Dr. Annie Besant in the year 1913 in the campus of Theosophical Society is a pioneer institution with an aim of providing higher education to the girls. The college was shifted to Rajghat campus in the year 1954, in the campus of Krishnamurti Foundation India, an international foundation running educational institutions in many parts of India as well as ab
road. It was established by Shri J Krishnamurti the foster son of Dr. Annie Besant. Pupul Jayakar, Shri Iqbal Narayan Gurtu, Shri M B L Dar and Shri R R Upasani, were our Trustees in the past. Krishna an international recognized Professor of Physics & Religion and Swami Chidananda, renowned scholar of Vedanta and many others are our present trustees. While attaining major goals the institution pursues the ideals of J. Krishnamurti for larger meaning of life. J Krishnamurti rightly said – “Right education is to help you to find out for yourself what you really, with all your heart, love to do. It does not matter what it is, whether it is to cook or to be a gardener, but it is something in which you have put your mind, your heart.”
Spread over an area of 300 acres in the Rajghat, Varanasi, the college has a picturesque campus on the banks of river Ganges, full of natural environment. The college is about to complete a century soon and feels satisfied working in the positive lines to impart right education to women. To name a few of our alumni are – Smt. Manju Sundaram (Renowned Vocalist, Theosophical Society, Varanasi), Prof. Kalplata Pandey (HOD, Deptt. of Education, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith), Prof. Gita Rai (Deptt. of Education, MMV, BHU), Prof. Prabha Benipuri (Deptt. of Hindi, Muzaffarpur), Ms. Kavita Jalan (IPS, Orissa Cadre), Ms. Neha Garg (Social work consultant, London), Ms. Swati (News Reader/Reporter, CNBC AWAAZ), Ms. Tulika (Documentary Maker, Winner of Silver Medal at Mumbai International Film Festival 2010). Besides this there are seven alumnae’s of the college serving as teachers of this college.
