In the depths of the wild forest, a Sloth Bear locked eyes with me from ground level.

Watching wildlife is a thrill.
Seeing it roam free in the forest? Next level.
Shooting it up close, belly on the ground? Straight-up dangerous.
But that moment of eye contact... Omg.
Don’t ask. There’s an instant chill down the spine.
Pure wild magic. This is why we chase these moments.

The Bar-headed Goose is one of the ultimate survivors of the avian world. How do they cross the mighty Himalayas?
By utilising specialized hemoglobin to extract oxygen from the dangerously thin air and massive lungs that allow them to fly over some of the tallest peaks on Earth.

True masters of the sky!

**Mission Accomplished: The Ghost of the High Himalayas!** 🐾

Last week in Ladakh, I was determined to see the elusive **Eurasian Lynx**. After contacting several guides (most were already booked and the few available ones quoted sky-high prices), I decided to take matters into my own hands.

With my own car, I headed straight to **Chang La** (over 17,500 ft), one of the highest motorable passes in the world, braving the thin air and rugged terrain. And then… against all odds, **we found him!**

This magnificent cat stood right in front of us, completely unbothered, as if he was waiting to give us an audience. What a heart-pounding, once-in-a-lifetime sighting! Pure magic at 17,500+ feet.

Grateful beyond words for this incredible encounter with one of India’s rarest and most secretive wild cats.

Badminton, Molting, and a Tiny Visitor

Yesterday evening’s game was interrupted by the smallest—and cutest—spectator I’ve ever seen on a badminton court.

While playing on the Kacha ground near the forest, this tiny Common Kukri (about 4 inches long!) decided to join the match. What was truly fascinating was seeing such a "tiny chick" already undergoing the molting process. Nature really doesn't wait to grow up, does it?

Knowing he’s a non-venomous neighbor, I gave him a lift back to the safety of the jungle. I made sure to send him off with a bit of advice:

"Next time you want to play, bring your own racket. I'm happy to share the court, but I never share my personal gear!" 😂

It’s moments like these—where the wild meets the court—that make living near the forest so special. Respect the locals, even the ones with scales!

Edge of the Forest: A silent bird and human stamp.

I was at the old temple on the foothills, waiting for a bear, when this Painted Spurfowl stepped out—male, speckled black-white on rust-brown, perched right between fresh iron rods. Not hiding. Just... there. Like it owned the spot.

But those rods? They're the start of a pillar. Construction creeping in. And behind him?

People burn forests everywhere just to help them collect Mahua flowers , villagers clear the ground every season. Flames wipe out herbs, nests, eggs. Bears vanish. Birds like this one get quieter.

Can't we both survive? Can't we both respect each other?

We both have right to live.

The Secretive Queen: A Glimpse of the Future?
In the world of wildlife photography, we usually expect the males to be the ones showing off with bright colors while the females blend into the background. But the Greater Painted Snipe completely flips the script.
In this species, it is the female who wears the stunning, vibrant colors. She is larger, bolder, and—unlike most birds—she is polyandrous. This means once she lays her eggs, she leaves the nesting duties entirely to the male. He is the one who stays behind to incubate the eggs and raise the chicks, while she moves on to find her next mate.
Capturing a photo of this "queen" is a massive challenge. These birds are incredibly shy and secretive, often hiding deep in the thickets even when you are standing just a few feet away. To make it even harder, they are crepuscular, meaning they are mostly active during the dim light of sunrise and sunset. This is why getting a clear, sharp shot is so rare; they prefer the hours when the light is toughest for a camera.
It’s almost as if this bird is living in a different era—a "bird from the future" where traditional roles are reversed and the females rule the wetlands. She’s beautiful, she’s in charge, and she only appears on her own terms.
