Fresh Rain & Snowfall Across Kashmir; Higher Reaches Turn White Again

Srinagar | Feb 4

Fresh precipitation swept across Kashmir on Tuesday, bringing rain to the plains and snowfall to higher reaches, even as night temperatures showed a slight improvement in several areas.

Srinagar witnessed intermittent afternoon showers under overcast skies, while prominent tourist destinations including Gulmarg and Pahalgam received fresh snowfall.

Snow was also reported from upper areas of Anantnag district, including Sinthan Top and Kokernag, while parts of Shopian experienced a mix of rain and snow.

๐ŸŒก๏ธ Temperature Update

Srinagar: 2.8ยฐC

Gulmarg: โ€“5.3ยฐC (around 2ยฐ above seasonal average)

Pahalgam: โ€“0.4ยฐC

Qazigund: 0.4ยฐC

Kokernag: 0ยฐC

Kupwara: โ€“0.5ยฐC

Despite precipitation, minimum temperatures edged slightly upward at most locations.

๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ Weather Forecast

According to the Meteorological Department:

Feb 3: Generally cloudy; light rain/snow at many places

Feb 4โ€“6: Mostly dry; light snow possible in isolated higher areas late Feb 6

Inclement Weather Likely in J&K Till February 7; Sub-Zero Nights Continue

Srinagar | Feb 1

Jammu & Kashmir is set to experience continued unsettled weather till February 7, with the Meteorological Department forecasting cloudy skies, light to moderate rain and snowfall in higher reaches, along with possible thunder and gusty winds over the coming days.

While the 40-day harsh winter phase known locally as Chillai Kalan ended on January 30, night temperatures in the Valley have again dipped below freezing.

๐ŸŒก๏ธ Temperature Update

Srinagar: โ€“0.1ยฐC

Pahalgam: โ€“2.6ยฐC

Gulmarg: โ€“6.5ยฐC (coldest)

Jammu: 10.1ยฐC

Day temperatures, however, have shown improvement, with Srinagar recording 10ยฐC and Jammu touching 22.1ยฐC.

๐ŸŒจ๏ธ Weather Outlook

Feb 1: Cloudy; light to moderate rain/snow (higher reaches), thunder/gusty winds possible

โ€ขFeb 2 โ€“ 3: Generally cloudy; light precipitation in upper areas

โ€ขFeb 4 โ€“ 6 (Evening): Partly cloudy

โ€ขFeb 7: Cloudy; light rain/snow at few places

โ€ขFeb 8 โ€“ 10: Dry weather expected

โš ๏ธ Advisory Issued

Authorities have advised:

โ€ขFarmers to suspend agricultural activities till Feb 7

โ€ขResidents in avalanche-prone areas to exercise extreme caution

โ€ขTravellers to check official updates on the Srinagarโ€“Jammu National Highway before journey

๐Ÿ’ง Why This Snow Matters

Though most of Chillai Kalan passed without significant precipitation, late heavy snowfall in higher reaches has eased concerns about summer water shortages.
Snow accumulation in mountains plays a crucial role in replenishing rivers, springs, and perennial water reservoirs that sustain J&K during warmer months.

Winter may be softening, but weather remains dynamic. Stay alert.

โ„๏ธ Gulmarg Fully Booked! Sonamarg Hits 70% as Snow Tourism Surges in Kashmir

Srinagar 30 Jan:

Kashmirโ€™s winter magic has officially taken over. Following fresh snowfall, Gulmarg hotels have reached 100% occupancy, while Sonamarg has touched 70%, as tourists from across India and abroad rush to experience the Valleyโ€™s snow-covered landscapes.

From January 1 to 27 alone, 87,693 tourists visited Sonamarg including 77,200 domestic visitors, 1,225 foreign nationals, and 9,268 local tourists signaling a powerful revival of winter tourism.

Visitors described the Valley as โ€œHeaven on Earthโ€, with many saying Gulmargโ€™s skiing slopes rival international destinations.

The CEO of Gulmarg Development Authority confirmed that post-snowfall bookings have surged dramatically, making Gulmarg the first choice for skiing and snow adventures this season.

โš ๏ธ However, authorities have urged tourists to:

โ€ขUse only designated ski tracks

โ€ขAvoid avalanche-prone areas

โ€ขFollow official advisories strictly

โ€ขA minor avalanche was reported recently, but no casualties occurred.

Meanwhile, stakeholders have appealed for uninterrupted power supply to ensure better tourist comfort during peak winter rush.

Kashmirโ€™s snow economy is booming โ€” but safety remains the top priority.

To those who havenโ€™t come to Kashmir yet,
know this: the doors are still open.

The mountains are still waiting, quiet and patient.
The rivers still carry stories, the breeze still smells of pine and promise.
There is still room for youโ€”by the fire, on the paths, in the prayers whispered at dusk.

Come when you can. Come with curiosity, with respect, with a heart ready to feel.
Kashmir hasnโ€™t closed its arms.
Itโ€™s still here.
And it will welcome you.

Srinagarโ€“Katra Vande Bharat: What This Schedule Really Means for Travelers

A new schedule circulating online shows Vande Bharat Express and Special Fare AC trains operating between Srinagar (SINA) and SMVD Katra, offering a travel time of around 3 hours each way.

If operational as listed, this marks a major shift in Kashmirโ€“Jammu connectivity, making same-day travel more practical for pilgrims, tourists, and daily passengersโ€”especially during peak seasons.

However, weather conditions, technical checks, or operational updates can still affect services at short notice.

โš ๏ธ Important for passengers:
Before planning your journey, always cross-check timings and availability through official Indian Railways channels such as IRCTC, NTES, or Railway Enquiry. Do not rely solely on forwarded images or screenshots.

๐Ÿ“Œ Fast trains are valuable, Verified information is essential.
