Abbas, (as) also known as Alamdar (standard-bearer), is highly revered in Islam for his loyalty to his brother Husain, (as) his respect for the Household of Muhammad, and his role in the Battle of Karbala. Abbas is buried in the Shrine of Abbas (as) in Karbala, Karbala Governorate, Iraq, where he was martyred during the Battle of Karbala on the day of Ashura. He was praised for his "handsome looks" and was also well known in the Arab community for his courage, bravery, strength and ferocity as a warrior. Ibn Manzur narrates in his al-Ayn that Al-Abbas (as) was the "lion that other lions feared" as a testament to his accolades as a warrior. Sheikh at-Turaihi describes Abbas's (as) appearance as resembling an unshakable mountain, with his heart firmly rooted, due to his qualities as a "unique horseman" and a "fearless hero".

Early life
Qasim (as) was born the son of Hasan ibn Ali, (as) the second Imam, and his wife Umm Farwa. His father was the elder son of Ali ibn Abi Talib (as) and Fatimah, (sa) and Qasim (as) was thus a great-grandson of the prophet Mohammad,(pbuh) father of Fatimah. (sa)

Who is Hussain (as)
Hussain ibn Ali (as)
Hussain (as), son of Ali (as) and Fatimah (sa) and the grandson of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad, lived 1400 years ago in Arabia, and is recognized as an important figure in Islam, as he was a member of the Ahl al-Bayt (the household of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.w ) and Ahl al-Kisa, as well as being the third Shia Imam. He is most well known for his death in the battle of Karbala, 61 A.H./680 AD, in which Hussain and his companions fought the caliph Yazid and his army of circa 30,000. Who is Hussain cites this battle as epitomising Hussain's greatest qualities, saying that while Hussain had little or no hope of victory for himself, it was hoped the stand would shake the nation's conscience to battle the injustice and immorality Hussain felt present in Arabia. According to Who is Hussain the battle of Karbala laid the foundations for the overthrow of the Caliph's dynasty.
The organisation also seek to highlight other stories of Hussain's (as) life to promote compassion, honour and integrity. For example, "a celebrated example was when he and his brother Hassan (as) cared tirelessly for a poor blind man they came upon in their city, in spite of traditional social expectations.

What is Muharam and Ashura?
Muharram
first month of the Islamic calendar

Muḥarram (Arabic: ٱلْمُحَرَّم‎) is the first month of the Islamic calendar. The general meaning of the adjective muharram means "banned, barred, forbidden, illegal, illicit, impermissible, prohibited, unlawful, unauthorised, unpermitted".
It is one of the four sacred months of the year during which warfare is forbidden. It is held to be the second holiest month, after Ramadān. The Tenth day of Muharram is known as the Day of Ashura. Sometimes, as part of the Mourning of Muharram, Shia Muslims practice partial fasting, and Sunni Muslims practice fasting on Ashura.
Shia Muslims mourn the martyrdom of Husayn ibn ʿAlī (as) and his family, honouring the martyrs by prayer and abstinence from joyous events. Shia Muslims do not fast on the 10th of Muharram, but some will not eat or drink until Zawal (afternoon) to show their sympathy with Husayn (as) . In addition there is an important ziyarat book, the Ziyarat Ashura about Husayn ibn Ali(as) . In the Shia sect, it is popular to read this ziyarat on this date.
Muharram and Ashura
The sighting of the new moon ushers in the Islamic New Year. The first month, Muharram, is one of the four sacred months mentioned in the Quran, along with the seventh month of Rajab, and the eleventh and twelfth months of Dhu al-Qi'dah and Dhu al-Hijjah, respectively, immediately preceding Muharram. During these sacred months, warfare is forbidden. Before the advent of Islam, the Quraish and Arabs also forbade warfare during those months.

According to Islamic sources, the event of Mubahala was a meeting between the Islamic prophet Muhammad and a Christian delegation from Najran (present-day Saudi Arabia), in the month of Dhu'l-Hijja, 10 AH (October 631, October 631-2, October 632–33), where Muhammad invoked a curse attempting to reveal who was lying about their religious differences.
Quick Facts: Date, Location ...
The initial effort was to invite the Najrani Christians to Islam and acknowledgement of Muhammad as a prophet. During religious discussions of similarities and differences, the topic of the divinity of 'Īsā (Jesus) arose. The Christians refused to accept Muhammad's teachings about Christ and refused denying their beliefs. Muhammad invoked a mubahala (prayer curse) regarding their refusal, and included his Ahl al-Bayt in the call to invoke a curse.
