The word 'rhododendron' comes from the Greek rhodon, rose and dendron, tree. Of the bushes and trees of this species that grow in Himachal Pradesh.
Locally called 'brass', this is a tree that normally grows to a height of 20 to 25 feet - though there are numerous cases where it has shot beyond twice that height. Crowded on large corymbs, the flowers are displayed on a platter of oblong leaves that are up to five inches long.
