Silver Frames - IIM Shillong Photography Club

Silver Frames - IIM Shillong Photography Club "...keep clicking, flashing and capturing..." We often yearn for things which connect us. Interactions with people lead to memories.

Human life would have no meaning if we are not connected with people around us. And memories are probably the only thing we can carry with us wherever we go. Memories are best captured in the form of a photograph, preserved mostly in a silver frame. With that intent in mind, we at IIM Shillong have named the Special Interest Group for Photography as Silver Frames. Silver Frames is a group of indiv

iduals unified by the common love to explore the scintillating world of photography. We might all be novices, but sure have a passion to learn, explore and pursue this wonderful hobby. All of us have different fields of interest. While some of us like macro-photography, some others like to capture landscape; some of us are into portrait photography (and thus bullied at every event or function by hordes of friends and peers into clicking their pictures) and another bunch interested in capturing wildlife. IIM Shillong is located in a very picturesque place. The best of clicks have mostly come from random walks we take in evenings in our surroundings. In order to showcase our talent to the world outside, we have used Facebook as our online platform. The page of Silver Frames has mostly albums displaying various clicks by members of this special interest group. In order to encourage the spirit of photography, we also upload some amazing pictures taken by other peers in IIM Shillong. Photos are among the best form of memories we can have. Browsing through photographs taken in the past throws us back to a bygone era and often makes us nostalgic about the wonderful times we have had back then. We, the shutterbugs of IIM Shillong, shall strive to promote the passion for photography and be “silver framed” in the hearts of people around us. A Photograph is worth 1000 words. But here in Shillong each photograph is worth a million blinks.

This picture shows a beautifully lit idol of Goddess Durga, and its colours can be closely related to India’s tricolour theme.

Saffron (Kesaria): The warm orange-red tones of the goddess’s attire and the golden crown reflect courage, strength, and sacrifice-values saffron represents in the Indian flag.

White: The calm, serene expression on her face and the soft highlights symbolize peace and truth, like the white band of the flag.

Green: The subtle green hues in the drape and background lighting echo growth and harmony.

Blue: The darker blue tones behind her resemble the Ashoka Chakra’s blue, standing for dharma and cosmic order.

Overall, the image blends devotion with colours that symbolically mirror the spirit of India-strength, peace, growth, and righteousness.

This image captures the true Colors of India through love and tradition. The grandmother’s bright sari and warm smile reflect generations of strength, while the child’s innocent eyes hold hope for tomorrow. Together, they embody India’s heritage, resilience, and the timeless bond of family.

I captured this moment during a Rajasthani folk performance at my college. In that moment, I forgot I was holding a camera. Something about their movement made my heart pause. It wasn’t just a dance; it was emotion, it is scared. I was genuinely, deeply mesmerised.

On the crystal-clear waters of the Dawki River, three wooden boats glide over shades of emerald and jade. In this quiet moment where nature and life blend effortlessly, you’ll find all the colours of the Tiranga woven into a single frame of India.

Two figures walk slowly up a sunlit village road, their shadows stretching behind them. A brick house glows in the evening light, framed by tall trees and tangled wires. It feels unhurried, almost sacred, like a simple conversation carried home by the warmth of dusk.

Captured beneath a clear sky, this towering statue reflects a moment of quiet reverence during my travels. The vibrant colors and intricate details drew me in, symbolizing peace and devotion. I photographed it to preserve the feeling of calm and cultural beauty I experienced standing before it.
