Yesterday the country celebrated Holi. And there were a lot of people posting pictures of they enjoying and wishing others. But there was a particular lot which was manning forests. The pictures here are of the remote camps (currently as tents) manning posts extremely sensitive to poaching and conflict. What’s was interesting is that the forest department leadership team visited each and every camp (repeating - each and every camp), carrying sweets, hugging them, wishing each and every guard, and field resource , making sure they feel a part of the family. Having lunch with them. Extremely fortunate to be a part of this humbling experience while on project work, to see the dedication of the guards and the forest leadership on such aspects which we don’t know and don’t think about. Huge respect for the forest force.

Sloth bears are mainly nocturnal. Their sense of smell is well developed but their sight and hearing are poor. These bears are generally not aggressive, but their poor eyesight and hearing makes them agitated when humans get closer, and when threatened these bears will defend themselves.

When you spot her right next to your jeep, at a turn, irritated at you that you ruined her slumber. As we started to absorb her grace and beauty, the next thing we did was to realise that this posture is a ready to pounce one, and we left her there and moved on with just the awe of seeing her so close.

Whenever I get into forest camps, it’s a sheer joy and honour to be humbled seeing the simplicity of the lives. Almost zero footprint. Carefree world, rich stories and pure hearts of the forest staff. This is picture with the pumpkin grown there organically and to have subzi made from that was a yum.
