Long exposure photography is usually associated with low light, but some experiments happen right in the middle of the day.

The challenge is simple. There is too much light to keep the shutter open long enough to create movement.

That is where an ND filter becomes a creative tool. By reducing the amount of light reaching the sensor, I can slow the shutter down and turn moving water, clouds and other elements into something much more fluid.

For this frame, I used the Hama ND2 to ND400 variable ND filter to control the light and explore a longer exposure during daylight.

For me, filters are not just accessories. They expand the possibilities of visualising a scene differently.

And perhaps that is why I keep finding myself drawn towards landscapes. There is something exciting about returning to a familiar place and asking, what else can I see here?

More landscapes. More experiments. More stories waiting to be photographed.

Bird photography isn’t about finding birds. It’s about learning to see opportunities before they unfold.

That’s why Bharatpur, also known as Keoladeo National Park, is one of my favorite places to mentor photography enthusiasts.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it offers an incredible diversity of resident and migratory birds during winter months. From December to February, every hour brings a different opportunity.

We begin with the soft golden light of sunrise, spend the day exploring behavior, action, portraits and habitat, and return to the magic of the evening light as the day comes full circle.

This video shares the 7 steps that shape every successful bird photograph. Not camera settings or equipment, but the mindset behind consistently creating meaningful images.

For those who wish to go beyond simply photographing birds and truly understand the craft, Keoladeo remains one of the finest classrooms nature has to offer.

The place and the subject may change, but the vision of making photographs remains the same.

Intentional Camera Movement is not about moving the camera randomly.
A successful ICM should still preserve the story of the scene. The subject should remain recognisable while the motion adds emotion, light, and energy to the frame (In my opinion).

The irony of a wildebeest’s life is both beautiful and humbling.

They spend their lives searching for food and water, yet in doing so, they become food for countless others. Today it was vultures, marabou storks, and earlier, hyenas. Tomorrow, the cycle will continue.

Nature reminds us that every life has a purpose beyond itself. Sometimes we are the ones chasing opportunities, and sometimes our journey becomes part of someone else’s survival.

The wild teaches one lesson over and over again. Life is not only about taking. It is also about giving, even when we do not realise it.

Why do we need post processing if we captured the scene correctly?

The answer is simple. Our eyes have a much wider dynamic range than any camera sensor.
We naturally see details in bright highlights, deep shadows, and rich colours all at once.
A camera has limitations. It records only a part of what we experienced.

Thoughtful post processing helps bridge that gap. It is not about creating a fake image.
It is about bringing the photograph closer to the moment we witnessed.

Can you photograph tigers from a boat in India?
Yes. Panna Tiger Reserve offers a unique opportunity to photograph tigers from the Ken River whenever conditions and sightings allow.

Why is photographing from a boat special?
It gives a completely different perspective of the forest and allows you to include the river, cliffs, and habitat in your composition.

What camera settings should you use from a moving boat?
Use a high shutter speed to minimise motion blur caused by the movement of the boat.

Why is Panna one of the most photogenic tiger reserves?
Because it combines dramatic landscapes, the Ken River, and habitat rich compositions that go far beyond close portraits of tigers.

“Habitat Before Hero”
Some photographs are planned. Others are earned through observation, teamwork, and trusting the forest.

This frame began much earlier in the evening. We had spotted tigress P 151 resting near the Ken River during our boat safari, while her cubs were attempting an unsuccessful hunt nearby. As every other vehicle left the area, our safari pilot suggested we return to check on her. It felt like the right decision.

As we reached the riverbank, P 151 emerged from the river and walked towards us. She paused for a few minutes, quietly studying the landscape before deciding to move again.

Even before she appeared, I couldn’t stop admiring the dramatic clouds and the colours of the evening sky. The moment I saw her walking in our direction, I asked everyone to switch to a 70 to 200 mm lens. This wasn’t going to be a close portrait. It had to be a habitat image where the tiger belonged to the landscape as much as the landscape belonged to her.

The result was not just a photograph of a tiger. It was a story of light, timing, trust, and reading the forest before raising the camera.

Some evenings on a photo safaris stay with you forever. This was one of them.

Tiger day is here and the words you hear in this reel come from “The Tyger”, a timeless poem by William Blake, first published in 1794 as part of Songs of Experience.

Blake wasn’t simply describing a tiger. He used the tiger as a symbol of power, beauty, mystery, and the awe of creation. Through a series of questions, the poem asks who could create a creature so magnificent, fearless, and fierce, inviting us to reflect on the balance between beauty and danger in nature.

More than two centuries later, those words still feel alive every time we stand before a tiger in the wild.
