The Asian Paradise Flycatcher is one of India's most elegant birds. This is a male in the rufous colour form. Males have incredibly long tail streamers and a brilliant blue eye-ring, making them hard to miss when they appear.

One of the bird species we encountered regularly in India was the Green Bee-eater. Small, colourful and incredibly agile, they were entertaining to watch as they darted out from a perch to catch insects in mid-air before returning to the same branch.

On this occasion, both birds had been successful, although one appeared keen to demonstrate that its catch was clearly the more impressive! 😀

In India most of my White-throated Kingfishers were photographed perched, but I managed to capture this bird as it banked. The early morning light revealed the beautiful chestnut and blue plumage.

There’s something about a Jungle Cat that reminds me of both a Lynx and a domestic cat. Although larger and longer-legged than a domestic cat, it's easy to see the family resemblance. We were fortunate to spend time watching this beautiful individual in India, its ears seemed to be constantly moving, listening for the slightest sound.

Today is International Lynx Day.
The world's four lynx species – Eurasian lynx, Iberian lynx, Canada lynx and bobcat all have characteristic tufted ears and short tails.
Pictured here is an Iberian lynx kitten. Once on the brink of extinction, the Iberian lynx is the world's most endangered lynx species and one of the rarest wild cats on Earth.

One of the many highlights of our recent India safari was spending time with the dholes, also known as Asiatic wild dogs.

Often overshadowed by tigers and leopards, they are fascinating animals in their own right – highly social, intelligent and incredibly successful hunters.

We were fortunate to encounter several family groups during our trip and I like the way this individual paused to glance back before disappearing into the forest.

It's not really an Indian safari without a tiger photo, is it? In case you're wondering, yes it does give you an adrenaline rush when you see one of these coming up behind you.

Central India is home to several primate species and, with faces as expressive as this, they soon became one of my favourite animals to photograph.

I’ve recently returned from an incredible trip to India, visiting 4 of the country’s 107 National Parks. Thousands of images to sort through, but one of our first memorable encounters came in Satpura, where we photographed several sloth bears.

This individual walked quietly towards us along the track… one of those moments you never forget.
