These photographs are very special because they have rarely been documented. When we talk about Holi, only pictures of Holi of Vrindavan, Mathura, Banaras and Barsana come to our mind.
India is very diverse. We photographers also make the mistake of photographing big places but not paying attention to the areas close to us.
All these pictures are of my town in Bihar.
In bookish language it is called "Holika Dahan" but in our common parlance it is called "Agja".
Various things including wood are piled up and burnt. People sing special songs called Phag and Birha. Gram plants, called Jhangri or Jhingdi, are eaten by burning them directly on fire, this process is called Orha Lagana. Drums are also played at many places.
