A striking, hyper-active insectivore from Jungles of Western Ghats ๐ฎ๐ณ
Black Naped Monarch โค๏ธ๐๐ค
They are known for their brilliant plumage, these birds are widespread across South and Southeast Asia, easily spotted in well-wooded gardens and forests in the Indian subcontinent. Adult males are striking pale azure blue with a velvety black patch on the back of the head and a thin, sleek black โnecklaceโ. As flycatchers, they rarely stay still. They are famous for their quick, acrobatic maneuvers, darting out from shady perches to sn**ch flying insects and spiders right out of the air.
I photographed this handsome dude back in March 2018 at Dandeli (Karnataka, India).
