The Apatani people of Arunachal

On our visit to Arunachal with , explained to us how we would visit the Apatani village where we would interact with and photograph the tribal elders - one of the last generations to continue the traditions of wearing face tattoos and nose plugs.

And while we did witness those traditions, we also saw the newer generation of the Apatani tribe, who may not wear the nose plugs but continue the proud tradition of being respectful about nature in their own ways. We spoke with energetic elders working on the paddy fields with hand tools, her eyes lit up when we showed her photos and asked us to take more photos with "ishtyle". The women at the vegetable market selling chillis, or our very own wildlife guide reminding us to be aware and cognizant of the frog's stress levels when photographed.

What we hear the word tribe, our minds immediately conjure up images of primitive civilizations. But that's not the case. People evolve with the changing times, but core identity and values remain strong.

Of frogs, crabs and snakes...

A most magical tour of Ziro Valley in Arunachal Pradesh resulted in some of the most satisfying macro photos I've taken yet. Diving into the world of frogs, hearing their croaks and clicks, trying to find the elusive Apatani Horned frog was a lovely experience. Really enjoyed trying to get creative with macro, playing around d with light, perspective and depth of field resulted in some fun shots and even more learning.

Finished up a crazy weekend workshop with and on Creative Macro Photography in Mumbai and Matheran.

What I leant from Anirban da is to think boldly about colours, experiment with various techniques like multi exposure and think about separate the process of shooting the subject from its background. Learning to play with white balance on the field really pushes you creatively where even simple subjects like a dragonfly can end up creating visually compelling photos.

This workshop really opened my eyes to new ways of taking photos and this is going to stay with me for a long time. Thanks da for all the inspiration and guidance and showing us the use of all the vintage lenses too. And thanks to and the whole DCP team for the amazing learning experience!

Zitting Cisticola

Been going to the grasslands around Pune for around 5 years now, and never knew such a bird existed. Always learn something new out in the field.

Seeing this cute little bird in the fields, I had to dry a dreamy composition where the foreground just fades away into the morning glow as this bird perched up on a single stalk.

Had some fun playing with the Canon EF 8-15mm fisheye lens from during the recent Jaisalmer trip.

Visited the abandoned village of Kuldhara, and I enjoyed photographing the 13th century ruins. The distortion created by the fisheye lens led to some pretty interesting shots, like the 2nd image which shows the ruins like an eye. Even found some ghosts along the way 😅

The sandy dunes of Jaisalmer is a landscape that you just fall in love with and wish you didn't have to go back to the urban jungle.

My first time trying to photograph the stars and what a place to do it in - the chilly sandy dunes of the Thar Desert near Jaisalmer.

While I had done a practice round near Pune before the trip, this time was different because I also wanted to capture a unique perspective - using a round fisheye lens like the Canon EF 8-15mm from to get a view where the earth enveloped the sky.

And I couldn't be happier with my first attempt. I had previsualised the image using (image 4) but seeing the star trails get blended together in person with the sandy dunes providing the base was a wondrous moment.

Not to mention finally seeing the faint winter arms of the Milky Way and photographing it with the sand dunes again was another bucket list item.

Add in some dusk time landscapes using a flash was a love for night time photography truly established. Looking forward to many more opportunities to photograph the sky!

The monochrome hues of Desert National Park

Seeing the brown sandy dunes with thorny bushes just invited me to edit the photos in Black & White to really being out the contrast.

Playing around with some intentional camera movements on a horse moving across the Thar desert near Jaisalmer close to a water body for an evening drink.

Tried some rotational movements to form the curve while keeping the subject in the sample place to give a surreal feeling. Inspired by the one and only of course 😅
