Cormorants dive underwater to catch fish, eel or water snakes. They have feathers that become easily waterlogged, which allows them to dive deeper by preventing air bubbles from getting trapped underneath their feathers. This is one reason you often see cormorants with their wings spread, drying their wet wings after diving 🐥

The osprey is also called sea hawk, river hawk, and fish hawk, is a fish-eating bird of prey.It is a large raptor reaching more than 60cm (24 in) in length and 180cm (71 in) across the wings.It is brown on the upperparts and greyish on the head and underparts.The irises of the eyes are golden to brown & the transparent nictitating membrane is pale blue.The osprey tolerates a wide variety of habitats,nesting in any location near a body of water providing an adequate food supply.The osprey's diet consists almost exclusively of fish.It possesses specialised physical characteristics & exhibits unique behaviour to assist in hunting and catching prey.The osprey differs in several respects from other diurnal birds of prey.It's toes are of equal length and its talons are rounded, rather than grooved.The osprey and owls are the only raptors whose outer toe is reversible, allowing them to grasp their prey with two toes in front and two behind.This is particularly helpful when they grab slippery fish.

~ Elegance Is Not Standing Out, But Being Remembered ~

In frame: Painted storks in flight

Painted stork is one of those birds which I admire to photograph. I've clicked it in flight many times but never had the opportunity to get more than 3 in 1 frame.It was the morning of Dec2022. I along with my friends padma had gone to Lonavala to photograph the superstar & heartthrob "Amur falcon". We got loads of images of Amur falcon and the sun was getting hot.So we decided to head back.While returning, we saw a flock of these elegant painted storks gliding in the sky.Our SD cards were almost full but thankfully we were able to capture some wonderful frames of these beautiful birds flying like the maneuvering airplanes during an airshow.

Baya weavers are best known for the elaborately woven nests constructed by the males. These pendulous nests are retort-shaped, with a central nesting chamber and a long vertical tube that leads to a side entrance to the chamber. The nests are woven with long strips of paddy leaves, rough grasses and long strips torn from palm fronds. Each strip can be between 20 and 60 cm (7.9 and 23.6 in) in length. A male bird is known to make up to 500 trips to complete a nest. The birds use their strong beaks to strip and collect the strands, and to weave and knot them while building their nests.The nests are partially built before the males begin to display to passing females by flapping their wings and calling while hanging from their nests. The females inspect the nest and signal their acceptance of a male. Once a male and a female are paired, the male goes on to complete the nest by adding the entrance tunnel.Males are almost solely in charge of nest building, though their female partners may join in giving the finishing touches, particularly on the interiors. Females may modify the interiors or add blobs of mud.
