This vibrant performance of Panchavadyam was captured today at the historic Trikkav Temple in Ponnani. The Trikkav Sri Durga Bhagavathy Temple, considered one of the 108 Durga temples established by the sage Parasurama, is one of the most prominent temples under the erstwhile Kingdom of Samoothiri in Northern Kerala. 

Panchavadyam, (orchestra of five instruments), includes the thimila, an hourglass-shaped drum; the maddalam, a large, double-sided drum; the idakka, a smaller, pressure-sensitive drum; the ilathalam, or cymbals; and the kombu, a C-shaped horn. Panchavadyam is an integral part of Temple festivals of Kerala.

കർക്കിടക മാസം ഒന്നാം തിയതി മുതൽ കേരള ഗ്രഹാങ്കണങ്ങളിൽ ചാണകം കൊണ്ട് കളം മെഴുകി ഒരു മുക്കുറ്റി ചെടി വെയ്ക്കൽ പതിവാണു. കർക്കിടക മാസ സംക്രമത്തിൽ വീടുകളിൽ നിന്നു ചേട്ട ഭഗവതിയെ പുറത്താക്കി ശ്രീ ഭഗവതിയെ വരവേൽക്കുന്നുണ്ടല്ലോ. വീട്ടൽ ശ്രീ ഭഗവതിയുടെ സാന്നിദ്ധ്യത്തിൻ്റെ പ്രതീകമാണു ഈ മുക്കുറ്റിചെടി.

Going down the Naracoorte limestone caves was an awesome experience. The sight of beautiful columns of calcite formations such as stalacites and stalagmites, formed in severa hundred thousands of years was amazing. We could also see the naturally well preserved fossils of numerous animals of different eras which fell through holes (as shown)for over a millennia.
