Get • Kohelika Kohli () arrived with her parents at a farm in Sohna, Haryana, 35 years ago, when the mustard fields were in full bloom. All around, the Aravallis rose along a ridge, older than the blooming mustards, older than time. The stone cottage in the nerve centre of the farm, owned by a Gujjar family, dated back to over 180 years. When Kohelika used to visit as a child, there were barely any pukka roads leading to the house. Once inside, she’d rush to the tube well that her father had enlarged into a swimming pool: feet first and then the head-on plunge.

Khwabgah, literally meaning a place to dream, takes its name from Kohelika’s mother, designer Sunita Kohli’s () first visit to the Mughal Khwabgah in Fatehpur Sikri in her early teens. When Sunita would get lost in her house as a child, her parents had the usual refrain: she must be reading or dreaming away somewhere. It’s the ability to dream, then, that led to her being the first interior designer to be conferred the Padma Shri in 1992.

However, the soul of the original 180-year-old stone cottage is kept alive—in the preserved ceiling upheld now by railway girders acting as load-bearing beams or in the way light prances across the home between a large Burma teak Cheval mirror and antique baskets from China. “The Aravallis, among the world’s oldest mountains, gifted the original builders the toughest and most enduring stones, their surfaces softened by the passage of countless years,” Kohelika, the cofounder and creative director of the Delhi-based architecture and design studio K2India (), says.

Designing for twins is always an exciting challenge! Our client, , masterfully created these twin bedrooms, giving each brother a unique celestial identity while maintaining a shared cosmic theme.

One room features a striking Red Moon backdrop, complemented by vibrant, earthy furniture. The other, connected by a clever mezzanine, showcases a serene White Moon. Both spaces share the same layout and dimensions, ensuring harmony while celebrating individuality.

A masterclass in detail and proportion, this residence by beautifully merges contemporary luxury with timeless architectural principles.
The living areas feature dramatic coffered ceilings and striking geometric stone inlay flooring, setting a tone of opulent complexity. Custom joinery, like the eye-catching cabinet with organic, beetle-wing detailing, introduces a sense of curated personality against the calming neutral palette.

This home is thoughtfully designed for a young couple immersed in the pace of corporate life — a serene escape that reflects their need for balance, clarity, and quiet sophistication. Their brief was clear- elegance without excess, thoughtful design rooted in practicality and an ambience that felt warm, modern and timeless. The home embraces natural light and a soft neutral palette, enriched by textures, art and a refined material vocabulary. The space is a true extension of who they are - well-travelled, grounded and deeply connected to the idea of a home as a place for balance and restoration. The space exudes a soft modernism — calm yet expressive, refined yet personal. The palette oscillates between earthy tones, dusty pastels, and muted neutrals, ensuring harmony and continuity across all rooms.

Each room tells a subtle story — from the library corner that inspires pause and reflection to the bedrooms that are designed as intimate sanctuaries for rest and reset. Use of botanical motifs, indoor plants, and natural light promotes well-being and connects the indoors to nature—essential for rejuvenation in high-paced work life. The styling is minimal yet thoughtfully detailed, making the room serene and restful.
