Tegernsee - A Blue Pearl
Tegernsee is a picturesque lake town nestled in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps, south of Munich. The town can be accessed by car from Munich in approximately one hour and by train in 1.5 hours, with hourly services running between Munich and Tegernsee.
I took the RB57 train from Munich’s main station, Hauptbahnhof. Although it was cold, there was no snow in Munich, but upon entering the Alps, the scenery transformed, with plenty of snow and increasingly breathtaking views.
As we approached Tegernsee, a turn revealed the lake, prompting a collective gasp of wonder at the spectacular sight.
I disembarked at Tegernsee Station, which was a quite, pleasing place. As a train enthusiast, I spent some time admiring the station before proceeding.
I strolled down towards the lake shore, passing through quiet, calm, and beautiful houses and streets. The town was situated on the edge of the lake, with mountains providing a stunning backdrop.
I reached a viewpoint on the lake shore, and the views were nothing short of enchanting. Although it was cold and windy, the sun shone brightly with clear skies, and a light mist rose from the snow on the banks.
The lake is surrounded by mountains, and a walking path encircles its entire circumference,. The lake is large with 7 km in length and 2 km wide at its widest point. A few small villages are nestled around the lake.
I walked along the bank for some time, taking in the views, which were reminiscent of a fairy tale. Then, I walked into the town, had a snack at an Indian restaurant called Taj Mahal, and took the return train back to Munich.
No amount of pictures can do justice to the beauty of this place. However, I have included some photographs below, which were difficult to select a few from the many I took.
