~ It was heartening to experience how in an interior valley of Himachal Pradesh, there were efforts, by the individuals there as well as at the government body level, to create awareness, encourage and propagate change for the better, to arrest and reverse the effects of pollution...
Every individual orchard house in the far-flung hamlet of Kalga had garbage bins placed along the tracks ..individuals were recycling much of the waste that would generally be thrown, like glass bottles used for creating walls..the local temple had segregated bins outside and were on solar power..plastic free zones have been created and we were told by the owners of our home-stay to collect any plastic used and to give it to them for proper disposal..
Sadly, the tourist/travellers weren't adhering to these...and yes, there was garbage strewn in some areas..🥵
And so the appeal goes out to each one of us...let's be conscientious when we travel...these are extremely important ecological reservoirs..let's put our minds to not exploit and to put in a little effort(slowly but surely it becomes the normal-a way of life) to not litter(even if no one is looking!!), not use plastic mindlessly, and to be the Change Ourselves...Every Single Day.
