Many people get confused amongst Jain and Buddist Idols. You can differentiate between them by using the below:
1. The idols of Tirthankars in Jainism that are in the sitting position will always have the "Gyan Mudra"
However, Buddist idols are not restricted to one and have several mudras.
2. Jain idols always have a "Chinh" (Symbol) below their feet, however Buddist don't.
3. Buddha is generally potrayed to have curly hair, however Jain Tirthankars pluck their hair and get bald when choosing the life of a monk. If the idol has long hair then that is a Buddhist Idol
4. Jain Idol's eyeballs are focussed on the nose but there are no such restriction in Buddhism.
