Another beautiful sunset last night here in Winter Garden. The Saharan dust has been continuing to blanket the skies over Florida for an unusually long time now, providing for some incredible skies. It has been a blessing as the dust works like a barrier against severe storms and hurricanes, this has made for an unusually quiet August.

I’m not complaining and hoping it continues this way, though we still have some ways to go till the end of the hurricane season. Crossing my fingers for more beautiful skies than storms.

An epic sunset here in Winter Garden last night after what was a rollercoaster of a day, but then that is Florida weather for you. The day started out cloudy, humid and as the day progresses became super hot, muggy, then rolled in the dark clouds, later in the day loud thunder on and off and then came a quick but a fast moving thunderstorm with heavy rain. An hour later this is how the day ended.

Birds are much more grounded and that is why they fly higher. Anhinga at Disney Springs from a few days back. In India the Anhinga is also known as the Darter or the Snake bird.

Wishing everyone a very happy, healthy and a successful 2024, I hope all your wishes and dreams come true. I want to thank everyone who has been so supportive to me during the tough times year in and year out. While I will never look back to what the last year was, it will be a reminder that unless you know where you have been, you don’t know where you are going. I’m working hard to improve my health and know that there is nothing that can pull me down or keep me down for long.

Pileated woodpecker parent teaching it’s young one the ropes.

Seneca Creek State Park in Germantown, Maryland was very close to my home and a great place to go photography bird and hiking. This image is from 7 years ago and I was in much better health then, I hope those days come back again.

Here are some interesting facts. The Pileated woodpecker is the largest woodpecker in the U.S. second to the critically endangered Ivory-billed woodpecker. To give you an idea, they are roughly the size of a crow. The oldest known Pileated Woodpecker was a male and at least 12 years, 11 months old when he was recaptured and rereleased during banding operations in Maryland.
