A few weeks we hosted a diverse group of photographers for a short yet fruitful photo-exploration of Shekhawati.
Thanks to Fujifilm's wonderful team for not only supporting this idea shared at the beginning of the year whole-heartedly but also entrusting me with the curation of an itinerary that would engage a motley group like this.
We managed to explore quite a bit - havelis, streets, documentation of frescoes including demonstration of incredible tilt-shift GF30mm on GFX100II, holi festivity and even a review in the night.

Big thanks to Abhimanyu san for his technical and aesthetic insights, Rohit San for executing the minutest of details meticulously and Raja San for capturing the essence of it. Great support from GP Pro and Gaurav san ensured it was a seamless experience despite the usual glitches that crop up anytime.

Thanks to the wonderful hospitality by Vivaana Culture Hotel and personal supervision of Atulji and David that made our stay wonderfully memorable.

My gratitude also to Rajeshji for sharing his deep insights at the Ramayan Chattri.

And last but not the least a big shout-out to each of our participants who invested time and energy to explore something totally off the grid.

Changes in Old Delhi are not always evident over a short duration but they are surely there in place.
What has attracted and taken me back to Farman Wale is the tactility of wood .
And the fact that there are no owners or workers in this establishment- everyone is a shareholder.
The senior men passed away during and after the pandemic and there's a new generation.
The shop itself is now half the size of what it used to be.

Krishna and his manifestations in Art & folklore of Rajasthan.
As diverse as it gets !

• The first image is from a Gavari performance in Mewar. Gavari is an annual event of dance and drama of Bhil Adivasis. Dedicated to Goddess Gauri , the tribal 'opera' starts right after the Hindu festival of Rakshabandhan where an all male crew travel everyday from one village to the next and perform from day till evening for 40 days. Lord Krishna features commonly in depictions as part of the larger visual of Mewar.

• Second image is a detail of the fresco panel from a haveli in Shekhawati.
One sees Lord Krishna on the wheel of a vintage car in this mansion of diasporic merchants that came to be called Marwaris.

As a person whose approach is midway that of a lens-based and a visual anthropologist,
I find the diversity of cultural heritage in Rajasthan immensely engaging and even overwhelming at times !

Melange of mobility.
The opening night party of Jaipur Art Week 3.0 showcased Raikas larger than life !
And the ecstatic me decided to commemorate it in the only way I know of- make images of some wonderful people I met connected with.

Sana I can't thank you enough for this heart-warming gesture nah spectacle

For me Raika pastoralists are an epitome of bio-cultural heritage(of Rajasthan).And have been at the centre- stage of my lens-based pursuits for a long time.

What an incredible week this has been .And we are just half way through.
Paradigms of Mobility has been received quite well by an eclectic audience.
The challenge of converging lived visualities of Raika herders and current residents of mansions created by Marwari merchants in Shekhawati has been quite a demanding one.
But then mobility has always come to my rescue !

Thanks to the entire team at PATI for shaping this painstaking initiative into a beauteous experience.
