In the fading light of our very first safari in Jawai, we were almost ready to head back with no leopard sightings.
Then suddenly, our guide Virendra spotted the tiniest movement — just a little leopard cub’s head peeking out from the rocky cliffs.
Within minutes, we were climbing the rugged hills of Jawai, and there it was… staring right at us.
That curious, slightly puzzled look in its eyes felt unforgettable — almost as if it was searching for its mother somewhere in the wild landscape around us.

In the wild granite wilderness of Jawai, we followed the silent trails of Padma — a dominant female leopard ruling a landscape unlike anywhere else on earth.

Across steep hills, unforgiving terrain, and hidden passages through ancient rocks, every movement demanded patience, instinct, and endurance.

Then came the moment.
Inside a cave lit only by shafts of light breaking through cracks in the stone, Padma rested beside her two cubs. Gentle. Protective. Powerful.
A rare glimpse into the unseen life of a wild mother — caressing, feeding, and guarding her young in complete stillness.

None of this would have been possible without our guide, Virendra whose relentless tracking and deep understanding of Padma’s movements led us to the right place at precisely the right time.

Here’s my two cents on documenting this unforgettable moment. ;)

The elusive Andaman Crake !!!

It is found only in the Andaman Islands, making it a truly endemic species. You won’t see this bird anywhere else in the world.

For many years, this bird was so rarely seen that it was feared extinct—until it was rediscovered.

Spotting this bird was quite interesting.
While following our guide Mani through the dense Andaman trail, he suddenly froze and signaled me to crouch. No idea what I was looking for—until the elusive Andaman Crake appeared, foraging just 10 yards away.
A rare sighting. A fleeting moment. Gone in a flash.

Grateful to Mani, and his sister for this unforgettable encounter!
