12438/ERSX WDG-4 donning customary ERS Livery resting at TRVL with BCNA "Test Wagons" bound to North Panakudi Railway Station.

Test Wagons which came from Erode and returned after conducting the weighbridge accuracy test at North Panakudi station. The weighbridge installed at Panakudi is an "in-motion" type that measures weight while the train is in motion. When a goods rake passes over the weighbridge at a speed of 10 kmph, the system compares the recorded weight with the tare (empty) weight of the coaches, which has already been stored in the system. That’s how this in-motion weighbridge works.

This weighbridge must be tested and verified for accuracy under the supervision of officials from the Legal Metrology Department. The Test Wagon is used specifically for this purpose. These wagons are loaded with sandbags of known weight and sealed. The rake is then run back and forth over the weighbridge, and by comparing the known weight loaded in the Test Wagon with the weight shown by the weighbridge, the accuracy of the weighbridge is verified.
