The Ruddy feels the Nagpur heat..

First time in Vidarbha region
Ruddy Turnstone scientific name
( Arenaria interpres) is a small stocky sized wader shorebird which earlier was formerly placed in the plover family ( Charadriidae) but now it is classified in the sandpiper family
( Scolopacidae ).
It breeds in the high Arctic tundra, northern Eurasia ans North America, spends winter towards South and west coastline almost worldwide,Europe, Africa, east Asia, Australia, Pacific Islands, and west Mexico.
It gets its name 'Turnstone' from its feeding habits, it flips and turns around small stones, shells and pebbles searching for invertebrates, insects, their larvae, spiders in the mud and grass by the shores in coastline and sometimes in the inland wetlands.

Happy to share the first record of this species in Vidarbha region as per Indian birds and ebird maps.

Sometimes size doesn't matter..

A white-browed fantail mobbing the Dusky Eagle Owl during the morning hours.. Though fantails are relatively very small birds as compared to dusky eagle owl but they are very aggressive birds when it comes to defending their territories and nest and are often seen mobbing big raptors birds sometimes setting on their heads until they move away.. 😊

The last remaining GIBs of Maharashtra

On the occasion of National Endangered Species Day 2026, the threat still looms on one of the majestic species who once ruled the grasslands of central and western India.
The Great Indian Bustard is listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List since 2011.
Today, less than 100 birds live in the wild in India, among them only 2 remaining in Maharashtra as per today newspapers reports.

Hope some magical efforts in conservation bring this majestic species back in their remaining habitats.
