Studio waste reclaimed to construct a patchwork mount . Lately I have been experimenting with different ways of using leftover scrap fabric to highlight materials and art in frames . The next few posts are going to be about the same . Framed for Bhakti- fine art print inspired by a 1735 watercolour in the Kishangarh style -currently housed at the Metropolitan Museum.

Chettinad Suite : Set 3 -the final selection of reverse glass painting inspired portraits examines the individual quirks and delightfully vibrant details of the upwardly mobile courted and noble ladies in intimate and secular settings.
Framed in a pool of floral and strictly geometric patterns that mimic the floor tiles and decorative details of old palaces and mansions, this set of two panels plays with an offbeat, slightly contemporary color palette.

Chettinad Suite: Set 1 The royals .
Inspired by late 18th-century reverse glass painting and Tanjore mural motifs, this selection explores a distinctive, lesser-known genre of Indian art- reverse glass painting.
Unlike the strict iconographic canons of traditional Tanjore ateliers, these works a product of India’s colonial heritage offer a tongue-in-cheek look at the fashionable elite—the first upwardly mobile Indian courtiers.
In terms of pallet and structure this trio of two panel sets are minimal with the use of red black white and gold colors.

The use of geometric patterns inspired by South Indian temple architecture and the iconic graphic checkerboard floors of Chettinad mansions acts as a quirky foil to the richness of the art .
