A month ago we were on the streets celebrating - walking with Pride at the Q***r Mumbai Pride March, determined to continue to fight the regressive limitations set by the authorities.
Pride has always been a protest first, always.
As we protested today - sloganeered, sang songs, spoke words that gave me goosebumps each time - as I watched so many of us feel defeated, saddened, in pain, tired of the long fight and the even longer one cut out for us —
I saw moments of tears, joy, solidarity. Never one without the other - for qu**rs and allies alike.
As the protest hours came to a close, at 6pm, minutes before the mics would go off - we received the news of the bill being passed in Rajya Sabha.
It is not the Law yet - which means, we need you, to stand in solidarity with us.
Stay angry, talk, fight, keep pushing to make things right. This is the only way. Trans bodies, non-binary bodies, gender fluid bodies - bodies that don’t assign to the norms of society do not need anybody’s approval to exist. They just do, we just do.
