There is a beautiful stage with lots of color lights, a floral floor and and there are numerous bulbs in the background. For a photographer, its light paradise. When I saw the venue for the first time, I was like a little kid with candy. Fast forward to the Sangeet event, there were numerous dances and speeches. Now the annoying thing was, that there was too much smoke on the stage. When the performances started, there was a 'smoke guy' who kept turning the machine on whenever the performances started. And it got in the way of almost every single shot I took. And i mean, EVERY SINGLE SHOT. While I managed with the smoke at that moment, I was surprised when I got home and transferred all the images to my computer. I found this brilliant image with all this smoke, and it was just everything I wanted. Long story short, you are looking at one of my favorites from this wedding.

The hour when the bride gets ready for the wedding is the best part of the day. There is so much excitement, so many pretty things around, a gang of bridesmaids always around giggling and trying to be the best beidesmaid ever. The scent of the fresh flowers, the beautiful colours of make up, the cold touch of jewellery, the irritating yet satisfying smell of hair spray and yes ofcourse, the aroma of mehendi. While it may sound vain, it sounds like one hell of a day. 😍
Being a woman, it gives me added advantage of interacting with the bride. When i was doing this shoot, I was one month away from my own wedding. The amount of jealousy in me was mounting. I couldn't wait to be in her place, getting all dolled up for the wedding. We were both so excited that day. Bridezilla Day!!! 😎😎

As brides, we like to think that we are completely cool and that we don't care about the little things and that we can just let go and go with the flow. I don't know about everyone, but at least that is what I thought. I declared that I didn't care about any of the stuff about my wedding, except the decorations and the photographer. So my husband and my family decided everything. Food, guests, everything. I wanted someone who was good at candids because, oh well, I am a photographer and I hate posing. I was very happy up until the day of the wedding. And then, BAM! Bridezilla. Suddenly it dawns on me that this is my WEDDING DAY. The most important day of my life. Suddenly the flowers are fabulous because they smell amazing. Suddenly I want my dress to fit perfectly because its the only day I will wear it. Suddenly it bothered me that I missed the shots of my make up and dress because the make up artist took too long. When the photographer asked me to pose, I posed. This was the day I wanted to tell my children about, and you can't do it without photos.
We brides do what we do, act how we act and care like we do because this day is what we have been living for for the past 2 decades, and it only seems right that we get to enjoy it and make it memorable because it's never coming back.
Moral of the story? Take some time and pose. Keep the events far apart so that the photographer has time to take your pictures. Because 20 years late, the venue will have gone, the flowers would've wilted and the makeup would be washed up, but your pictures? They will still be there with you, reminding you of every little thing. ❤

Isn't the red absolutely stunning? Among the yellow walls and tiles?
Usually when I tell couples to walk while I click, most pictures come out with them either caught mid word or looking elsewhere. That is why I love this picture so much. The expressions, the look, the stance and the decor.
The vibrance of the picture is absolutely heartwarming. ❤

With most weddings, there are very low chances of the bride and groom meeting before the wedding. With us gujjus, we see each other during the Varmala and not before that. (Unless you promised the photographer that you would, and also if your make up gets done on time). I was taking a short nap because I had up till 3:30 pm because that is the time that the bride would be ready. Luckily for me, she called me at 3, COMPLETELY READY, from head to toe. I felt like a little child who was granted early entry into disneyland. I had atleast an hour or more to do couple shots. Isn't that fantastic?? 😍
I spent maybe 30 minutes with Niriksha, and went to get Abhy. When we walked out of the elevator and towards Niriksha's room, he was nervous. Actually nervous. And so so excited. This is what he did the second he saw her. Couldn't help but give her a hug. And you can clearly see his face.
I feel like this is what I am good at. I am a hopeless romantic, and someone like me will always love doing this. Capturing something so innocent and intimate.
These couples allow us photographers to take pictures of them and follow them around during the best days of their lives. I am so sure that we photographers are annoying sometimes, with all our poking around and that goal of capturing practically EVERYTHING. Everyone may not believe so, but I feel priviledged to be allowed into this. No wonder I leave every wedding feeling like a family member or close friend. It cannot get any more personal than this.
You guys have been amazing, Niriksha and Abhy. Thank you so much 😊

Bhavya and Krupali's Engagement was in one of my few favourite banquets. Want to know why? Reason one. I got engaged there.😋 Reason two. The floor is flooded with natural light. Every corner has huge glass windows, and luckily, the morning events get beautiful sunlight. Now most normal photographers are scared of this. They say "idhar available light bohot hai. Kaise shoot karenge?" And I kept taking the couple to all the places that have too much light. Because what you see in this picture right now, this beautiful wall of light behind them, is because of huge windows with lovely light pouring in. This is a simple pose, a simple smile. But there is such glow in this picture that I just can't stop loving it. We photographers love the sun too much. ❤

We, as candid photographers, are always looking for moments and expressions to capture. That is, after all, what we are being paid to do. We run around with our bags full of equipments and lenses and try to squeeze our cameras in the smallest of places, so we can get something the others can't. Now that, is not as easy as it sounds. It includes climbing on stages and wobbly chairs, sneaking into a small corner in the mandap and sitting there till our backs ache, just to get a good angle during the pheras, sleeping on the floor to get a good portrait, and so many other funny things. The end product is completely worth it.
And then there are times when the families are so busy crowding around, that we can barely breathe, let alone take pictures. Our huge lenses poke people in their backs. It's quite hiliarious sometimes. We're always saying "sorry" and "excuse me please. I'm the photographer" 😂
In these moments, we run on pure luck. This picture came out when i was being blocked by 3 people and my camera won't focus and then it just suddenly clicked. I would say I was lucky I could atleast click, but then I see the picture and thank the stars. This one picture is what the bride will remember for the rest of her life. Her eyes, her jewellery, her expression. And I am proud that I was the one giving her this picture. Sometimes I wish I would've had such a beautiful picture of me taken. Maybe someday. ❤

Hey there! So this is my friend Shimolee. When shooting this wedding, I bumped into her the first morning there. And we just instantly hit it off. We talked about everything under the sun, and we just couldn't stop. The entire 2 days, I spent in silly banter with her. The first night, she gave me a flower and wished me a Happy Anniversary (it was my first and I was there, working, while my husband was back home in Mumbai). I put it into my bag and went on with shooting. The next night when I packed up my final bags, I found this flower and it was probably one of the sweetest things that I would remember from this wedding. A stranger inviting me into their joyful family moments and taking care of me like that. This is the best part about weddings. You meet so many people. You see kindness and laughter and joy and tears. I was so happy, those 2 days. When i finally finished shooting, I realized that my entire body was hurting, and I slept like a log that night. But up until then, I was a part of their family and I enjoyed it just as much. 😊

Almost every wedding around us has one of these. Couple dances. And one of the best rounds of applause are for the bride and groom. Now the fun thing is, if the couple has met through the system of arranged marriage, their dances are almost electric, filled with so much spark and tension. They haven't had much time to be close to each other this way, let alone in front of hundreds of people. If you look closely, you'll sse them whispering to each other, trying to crack jokes to relieve some of the awkwardness and plenty of blushes. Yes blushes. And those are my favourite. Ah the beautiful twirls and the lifts and the semi hugs. Quite romantic, no? Well, at least I think so. ❤

These bridal shots are always the best shots of the entire wedding. There is just so much to share. Each and every aspect of her. Her jewellery, her mehendi, her accesories, her lehenga, her make up, her eyeshadow and probably a million other things. Everything has been carefully picked out, designed, selected and created. Stunning brides aren't just born. They are nurtured and carefully made. And that is why these pictures are the most beautiful. And need to be captured without fail. 4 hours after this, she will have removed everything and will never be wearing it like this again. So make these few minutes count. There's nothing more than this that a bride wants. 😍

This was an impromptu picture. I called her name and she looked at me with such joy, showing me how her family and friends didn't leave a single spot on her that didn't have haldi. I especially love this one because of her eyes. See how they sparkle? It reminds me of how happy I was when they did this to me last year. Nostalgia is a good friend of mine. ❤
