Facade of Igreja da Nossa Senhora de Saúde which translates to the Church of Our Lady of Health.

It was built in 1606 in Sancoale village of Mormugao District in Goa. It was destroyed by a disastrous fire in 1834 and the whole church crumbled only leaving behind what is today known as the Frontispiece of Sancoale.

It remains a silent witness as centuries pass by while visitors and clergy change. It no longer operates as a church but serves as a quiet and peaceful place of reverence to reflect upon one's inner self while being seated in the well manicured green gardens around the monument.

Father Joseph Vaz used to teach Latin to students before they proceeded for college studies and was the key person for developing this church. Fr. Joseph Vaz, born in 1651 was later beatified as a "Saint" in 1995, and drafted his famed " Letter of Bo***ge " at this church in 1677, originally written in Portuguese but loosely translated to him offering himself perpetually as a slave to the Blessed Virgin Mary, to do what her Divine Son, Jesus willed with him.

Vintage Goa in 2024
Fontainhas, the capital of Panjim’s Latin quarter, is known for narrow lanes full of colorful Portuguese villas with balconies and red-tiled roofs. The 1800's St. Sebastian’s Chapel is a whitewashed, 3-tiered church and a few lanes further is the Shri Vithal Rakhumai Temple which has a beautiful and colourful facade. Small boutiques sell Portuguese azulejo tiles, while traditional Goan eateries and quaint bakeries all around the area serve local dishes and are mostly set up within their colourful houses.

Picture captured on Phone at the Fair opposite Our Lady of Hope Church , Chinchinim after the feast mass.
Walking past the Khaje , Chone , utensils and furniture vendors was just so nostalgic as I remember walking down the stairs at Bandra Fair every year on feast day.
The games and shopping is never ending and just fills me with joy to revisit a place I called home for 2 years, Chinchinim , Salcete, South Goa.

Happy Independence Day
Chasing colours of the flag in everyday scenes. The colours of the Indian flag came to light in 1931 and was designed by the Congress Flag Committee but this flag had a "Charkha" in the centre representing economic revival. The colours stood for qualities and not communities - Saffron for courage and sacrifice , White for truth and peace and Green for faith and strength. The modern day Indian Flag came into existence post independence in 1947 when a National Flag Committee under Dr. Rajendra Prasad replaced the "Charkha" with the " Ashoka Chakra".
This beautiful scene is from the Siolim-Chopdem bridge looking towards Siolim.

Quaint Goan Mornings . .
Waking up to the fragrance of burning firewood early morning for heating water mingled with various other aromas wafting in the air, bread baking and breakfast is nothing short of waking up in Heaven.
From poders (bread vendors) and nustekars (fish mongers) commuting on cycles and scooters blowing their horns beckoning people to come get their freshest produce, to the bells tolling in churches and temples , the morning slowly slides into noon with even more strong aromas of food lingering among the bylanes of the villages.
The "Sushegaad Goenkaar" may take a break on weekdays with the pressures of development and employment but on Sundays, everything takes a back seat and the Sushegaad life prevails.
