Photos in Motion
I’ve always loved talking to my models. I guide them into poses that feel right to me, but more importantly, I keep the conversation going. Those conversations help them do things they might never have done otherwise. I’m always searching for something that hasn’t been seen before, a side of them that only appears when they’re completely comfortable.
Directing isn’t just about telling someone where to stand. It’s about creating an environment where their personality can come through. Sometimes that means making them laugh. Sometimes it’s making them smile. Sometimes it even means pushing the right buttons to evoke a different emotion. Every feeling has its place if it serves the story.
The process is everything. Learning how to create the right atmosphere is just as important as understanding light or composition. Every time I work with someone, I already have certain frames and moments in mind that I want to create. But those images only come alive through connection and direction.
That’s why I believe a mood board full of references isn’t enough. References can inspire you, but they can’t create the photograph. You have to learn how to direct people, communicate your vision, and bring out moments that feel true to your style. That’s where the real work begins.
