I find flatlays to be very tricky
There are so many variables that can make you go....umm...ya....”not perfect”
Variable 1 - the angle
Your camera (or phone) needs to be exactly parallel above the surface
Which is difficult to achieve until you have a C stand or a tripod that can go parallel to the floor
If you’re shooting hand held and have climbed up to shoot a flatlay , chances are, you might end up clicking a ton of pictures finding just the perfect parallel angle
Variable 2 - Focus
All the best to you, if clicking on auto-focus is your thing because the camera will continuously try to focus on what it ‘thinks’ is the subject amongst the setup, AUTOMATICALLY
Variable 3 - Unsteady / blurry / shaky shot
Okay now that you’ve decided to pull the focus manually , let me tell you it will take some time to set the focus and capture it and by the time you would have taken 26 “ahh-not-that-sharp” shots, your hand would eventually start shaking and paining a little since your they have been stretched away from the body and over the subject.
Variable 4 - Less accessibility
In comparison to a head-on 90° shot or an angled shot (in which you’re standing just in front of the subject)
the top shot or flatlay takes away the accessibility from you , everytime you feel like you want to change the composition a little
You have to come down change the composition/setup and climb up again
These are a few challenge that I faced while learning to take flatlays
Do you ever face these?
Or was it just a photography rant 😂
