“I AM NOT YOUR SON.”
He created him. He thought that meant he owned him. Naberius looks at Adam and says: “Welcome, my son.” Adam's answer? “I am not your son.” Then he goes even further: “And this body is mine.”
That's what makes this moment in I, Frankenstein so powerful. Adam was created by Victor Frankenstein. He spent his entire existence being defined by other people:
- Creation
- Monster
- Weapon
- Experiment
Now someone else wants to define him as a son. And Adam finally says: No. You may have created me. But you don't own me. And then Naberius realizes something he never expected: “You have a soul.”
Maybe that's the real question behind Frankenstein: If someone creates you… do they get to decide who you become?
