A Purple Sunbird feeds on the Giant Milkweed/Crown Flower on a bright and warm afternoon around the Varuna Canal at Mysuru.

This female looked quite bold sitting out in the open feeding on the nectar while the male looked a tad shy making sure he stays behind the safety of the leaves(pics to be shared soon).

A Eurasian Marsh Harrier flying over the River Kaveri scanning the waters for any potential meal.

A Morning visit to the Blue Tailed Bee-eater Reserve in a hope to see the migrants, however not a single one seemed to have arrived yet. However, the scenic surroundings doesn’t just let you leave.
Whilst enjoying the nature, this beautiful Harrier flew right over the river from a distance very close to the water surface in a hope to find some prey. It scanned the length of the river flying to and fro and times directly towards me giving me ample time to get some shots and up close.

A Rock Eagle Owl with its newly born chick and also eggs which haven’t hatched.

One thing I could not understand is that with the chick around, the mom was seen incubating more eggs. It was really confusing though.

However after a reading thru the Internet it really makes sense.

A bird can lay only one egg at a time as it takes at least 24 hrs for egg creation.

Further, owl chicks are born blind, immobile and cannot keep themselves warm and need support from their parents until they can fend for themselves.
Hence the mother tend to indulge in asynchronous hatching.

This would give them time to take care of the first hatchling with terms of food, dangers from other predators etc. So the chance of survival of the chicks are very high. It can then hatch the other eggs and groom the hatchlings one after the other.

Such a wonderful adaption story by these wonderful creatures and something they have indulged in for several hundred years. This also shows how much the bloodline matters in wildlife.

The Ballet Dance couple!!

Nature and wildlife seem to always surprise!! I was headed to watch and photograph the blue tailed bee eater at the reserve but I bumped into the beautiful and elegant Bar Headed Geese.

My first encounter this year with these winter migrants, the Bar Headed Geese were seen foraging at a tiny puddle in a paddy field. I was lucky to get up close with them and watch them go about their usual routine.

The pic above seems like a ballet dance however it was them trying to take off when a couple of stray dogs entered the fields and started to chase all the birds around. First it was was the Red Naped Ibis and then the Spot billed ducks.
The Geese showed some courage however they had to flee as well to safety.

Though I was worried with the commotion it also gave me an opportunity to shoot the Geese in flight. Pics to follow.

The life line of the Western Ghats, The Bhadra River emanating from the mountains of Kudremukha flowing enchantingly through the Bhagawathi Nature Camp.

It’s just true bliss sitting around the banks listening to music from the ripples, the cool breeze whispering the stories of the jungle and the lil birds singing to the tunes of the stream. The rocks seem to have embraced the love from the river in a hope to be shaped each day and into a Gem one day.

The cold stream sweeping under the feet heals every bit of stress and pain, rejuvenates the body and calms the mind.

The nature seems to be painting a picture with infinite beauty.

A huge male tusker grazing, on a bright evening at the Bandipur Tiger Reserve.
The sheer size and the long tusks reminded me of the great Bhogeshwara from the Nagarahole Tiger Reserve from Kabini whom we lost just a few months ago.
