The art of slowing down

As a part of 'The art of slowing down' activity, we were given certain prompts and asked to click a picture that best describes that respective prompt. They were supposed to be clicked inside the boutique hotel we stayed at and, on our phones. Here are my photographs.

Adults spend a surprising amount of time apologising for children.
"Sorry they're making noise."
"Sorry they won't sit still."
"Sorry they're so naughty."
I've always wondered why.
Because when I look through my camera, I don't see a child who's difficult.
I see curiosity. I see imagination. I see someone discovering the world exactly as they should. Maybe we've spent so long asking children to behave like adults...
That we've forgotten how magical childhood really is. Years from now, your child probably won't remember this photoshoot. But they'll grow up seeing photographs that tell them one important thing.

And I think that's one of the greatest gifts a photograph can give.

Every toddler arrives with their own little personality.
Some are shy. Some are fearless. Some won't stop talking. Some won't say a word. Some want to be carried. Some want to run the entire time.
And honestly...
I don't have a favourite.
Because every child brings something beautifully unique to a session. The goal has never been to make children fit into my idea of a perfect photograph. The goal is to create photographs that feel true to who they are. So if you're worried your toddler won't sit still... Please don't be. I've never believed that stillness creates beautiful photographs. Connection does.

If you saw my previous post, you must have noticed this little cutie smiling in many pictures. However, she didn't smile immediately after meeting me. I had to build that comfort with her. I had to be playful and make her feel secure. After some time, my efforts started to show results- she finally started trusting me. However, I don't wait for babies to smile. There are so many other expressions that they give and are worth documenting. This is one of those :)

If you look closely at this photograph, you'll see a happy child.
What you won't see is everything that happened behind it..
The number of breaks we took to play with her.
The water breaks we took so that she stays hydrated.
The unwanted props we used.
The exhaustion.
The meltdowns.
The cuddles.
The giggles.
And honestly...
I'm glad all of that happened.
Because I don't believe children should fit into a photoshoot.
I believe the photoshoot should make room for childhood.
Some of my favourite images are created in the middle of the beautiful chaos that parents often apologise for.
Please don't.
Your child's personality is never something that needs fixing.
It's exactly what deserves remembering.
