“This set, aided and abetted by some of the world’s finest stained glass, nails it with interesting compositions and the ‘just right’ rendition of window brightness. Stained glass is undoubtedly photogenic, but as it’s essentially strongly backlit, getting a correct exposure that preserves details without over-egging it and getting muddy highlights can be a challenge. Here the delicate balance is expertly executed.”

The raised hand behind the ear is the defining, poignant element of the photo. It tells a deep human story of focus, connection, and determination not to miss a single moment. Combined with excellent composition and a beautifully managed shallow depth of field that isolates the subject from the crowd, this is a deeply moving and unforgettable image. “Such a fantastic series here. All these images have such a strong and consistent aesthetic across them all. The stong sunlight in them really making the colours of the buildings pop and contrast wonderfully with the rich blue of the sky behind. The compositions feel deliberate and both give this intense graphic feel and an enigmatic intreague by only showing us parts of the buildings. A lovely set and a pleasure to look through. “So much care has gone into creating this celebratory image of a crocus flower. The focus has been handled masterfully – the stamens are nice and sharp, while the petals fall out of focus beautifully. Spraying the flower with water has added sparkle, while the use of a card for the background has prevented anything from taking our eye away from the subject. The slight foreground blur was created by positioning two flowers close to the lens, which has worked wonderfully.”

“A worthy winner. What sets this portfolio apart is restraint — the buildings never shout, they sit quietly within the landscape and give the eye somewhere to rest. The mist and cloud inversions are beautifully handled, and there’s real consistency in the warm, soft palette running through all six frames. The mix of elevated and aerial viewpoints keeps things varied without breaking cohesion. For me, the church rising from the cloud inversion is the standout — properly atmospheric and patiently timed. Top work.”
