It is deeply regrettable and condemnable that the PDP has presented a bill in the Assembly to hand over the Waqf Board to the United Council of Ulema. The said forum has absolutely no connection with the Waqf or the sacred shrines.

In fact, many of its members hold the belief that visiting shrines and offering vows (Nazar and Niyaz) there is an act of Shirk (polytheism) and Bid‘ah (innovation). Whereas, in Jammu and Kashmir, nearly 80% of the people of Ahl-e-Sunnat wal Jama‘at have deep love and reverence for the sacred shrines.
