হিন্দুধর্মে, যশোদা হলেন কৃষ্ণের পালক-মা এবং নন্দের স্ত্রী। হিন্দু ধর্মের পুরাণ গ্রন্থে তাকে গোকুলের প্রধান নন্দের স্ত্রী এবং রোহিণীর বোন হিসাবে বর্ণনা করা হয়েছে। ভাগবত পুরাণ অনুসারে, কৃষ্ণ দেবকীর কাছে জন্মগ্রহণ করেছিলেন, কিন্তু কৃষ্ণের পিতা বাসুদেব নবজাতক কৃষ্ণকে তার মামাতো ভাই নন্দ এবং তার স্ত্রী যশোদার কাছে নিয়ে এসেছিলেন, তার লালন-পালনের জন্য, মথুরার রাজা দেবকীর ভাই কংস থেকে কৃষ্ণকে রক্ষা করার জন্য।
In Hinduism, Yashoda is the foster-mother of Krishna and the wife of Nanda. She is described in the Puranic texts of Hinduism as the wife of Nanda, the chieftain of Gokula, and the sister of Rohini. According to the Bhagavata Purana, Krishna was born to Devaki, but Krishna's father Vasudeva brought the newborn Krishna to his cousin Nanda and his wife Yashoda in Gokula, for his upbringing as well, as to protect Krishna from Devaki's brother Kamsa, the king of Mathura.
ভগবান শ্রী কৃষ্ণ শৈশবে খুবই দুষ্টু ছিলেন। কানহার অনুরূপ বিনোদনের একটি ছিল মাখন চারি। কানহাইয়া মাখনকে কতটা ভালোবাসতেন তা সবারই জানা। মা যশোদা কৃষ্ণকে যে মাখন দিতেন তাতে তার মন ভরেনি। তাই যশোদা যেখানেই মাখন রাখতেন, কৃষ্ণ গোপনে এসে সব মাখন খেতেন।
Lord Krishna was very mischievous in his childhood. One of Kanha's similar pastimes was Makhan Chari.Everyone knows how much Kanhaiya loved butter. Mother Yashoda was not satisfied with the butter she used to give to Krishna. So wherever Yashoda kept butter, Krishna would secretly come and eat all the butter.
একদিন যশোদা ভাবল খুঁজে বের করতে হবে মাখন চুরি করছে কে? পাত্রে মাখন রেখে লুকিয়ে দেখতে থাকল। কিছুক্ষণের মধ্যেই কানহা সেখানে পৌঁছে গেল। এটা দেখে যশোদা পুরো ব্যাপারটা বুঝতে পারলেন এবং কানহা যখন মাখন চুরি করতে লাগলেন, তখন মা যশোদা সেখানে পৌঁছে গেলেন। মা যশোদা এসে শ্রী কৃষ্ণর কান ধরে বলে আচ্ছা তুমি সেই মাখন চোর, যে আমাকে অনেক কষ্ট দিয়েছে। মাতাকে দেখে কৃষ্ণ হাসতে লাগলেন এবং বললেন, মায়া আমি মাখন খাই না। এ বিষয়ে মা বলেন, কৃষ্ণ শুধু তার মায়ের সাথে মিথ্যা কথা বলেন।
One day Yashoda thought to find out who is stealing butter? Put the butter in the pot and kept watching. Kanha reached there in no time. Seeing this, Yashoda understood the whole matter and when Kanha started stealing the butter, Mother Yashoda reached there. Mother Yashoda comes and holds Sri Krishna's ear and says well you are the butter thief who has caused me so much trouble. Seeing mother, Krishna started laughing and said, Maya, I do not eat butter. Mother says that Krishna only lies to his mother.
কানহাইয়ার মিথ্যা কথা শুনে যশোদা খুব রেগে কৃষ্ণকে বেঁধে দিয়ে বলে, আর কোনদিন মাখন চুরি করে খাবি?
After listening to Kanhaiya's lies, Yashoda is very angry and ties up Krishna and says, will you ever steal butter and eat it?
কানহাইয়ার নির্দোষতা দেখে এবং তার মিষ্টি কথা শুনে যশোদা কৃষ্ণকে জড়িয়ে ধরে বলতে লাগলেন, আমার প্রিয় দুষ্টু মাখন চোর। ঠিক তখন থেকেই শ্রী কৃষ্ণকে স্নেহের সাথে মাখন চোর বলা হত।
Seeing Kanhaiya's innocence and hearing his sweet words, Yashoda hugs Krishna and says, my dear mischievous butter thief. Right from then Sri Krishna was fondly called the Butter Thief.
