It all began in Mumbai and Delhi on the 28th and 29th of April. Those two launches were incredibly special, but somewhere in our hearts, we were waiting for one city- Kolkata.
No matter where this book travelled first, it always had to come home and we were waiting for it eagerly.
After years of photographing, writing, researching, chasing stories, knocking on doors, meeting strangers who became friends, and falling in love with this city over and over again, celebrating Kolkata by Heirloom Cities in Kolkata was a different feeling altogether. It was like the book coming full circle.
This evening belonged to everyone who made this book possible. To every writer, contributor and collaborator. To every friend who stood by us through the highs and the lows. To the countless people who welcomed us into their homes, restaurants, kitchens and lives, trusting us to tell their stories through our words and photographs. And to everyone who loves Kolkata with the same affection that we do.
A very special thank you to Rajan, Deepika, Tashi and the entire AMPM team. You didn't just host an event but you created an evening filled with warmth, generosity and joy- something that we'll carry in our hearts for a very long time.
To Sri, the captain of Heirloom Cities, thank you for dreaming something this ambitious and believing that cities deserve to be documented with this much love and depth. Your vision brought this beautiful book to life.
And to Rushina, thank you. Forever grateful for your encouragement, your faith in us, and for always being in our corner.
