Recently our City of joy,Kolkata just wrapped up "Pen Utsav 2026", the biggest festival for all the vintage pen lovers in the city.
From pens worth only ₹150 to very rare collection pen worth ₹6 lacs or ₹12 lacs, from fountain pens to ball-point pen belong from world class brands like Parker, Montblanc, Faber-Castell, Pilot & many more, it was a paradise for anyone who loves the art of writing & calligraphy. And It wasn’t just about pens, but also fountain pen-friendly notebooks, inks, wall clocks & even classic inkpots were add-on in the charm of this exhibition.
Anyone can walk in, explore exhibition for free & buy the pen they like, whether for their own collection or as a thoughtful gift. The best part of the whole arrangment was there were multiple repair stalls bringing vintage pens back to life on-spot.
A celebration of craftsmanship & passion, this pen exhibition returns every year in Iccr,kolkata.

কথিত আছে, ভিক্ষুক মহাদেবের সংসারে পার্বতীর সহিত তাঁর প্রায়ই কলহ লেগে যেত। এমনই একবার কলহ চরম পর্যায়ে পৌঁছলে দেবী রাগে শিবালয় ত্যাগ করেন। ঘরনীর অবর্তমানে শিব ক্ষুধায় পথে পথে ঘুরে অন্ন ভিক্ষা করতে থাকেন।
কিন্তু তাঁর ঘরনী যে স্বয়ং প্রলয়ান্ধকাররূপিণী তামসী রূপে শশ্মানে বিরাজ করেন, আবার তিনিই অন্নপূর্ণা রূপে সমস্ত জগতে ফলান ফসল, করেন দীনার্তদের অন্নদান। তাঁর ইচ্ছা ব্যতীত ধরিত্রীতে একটি দানা অন্ন ফলানো অসম্ভব।
ক্রমে জগতে নেমে আসে খাদ্যাভাব। সকল সন্তানের কষ্ট সহ্য করতে না পেরে মাতৃদেবী অন্নপূর্ণা রূপে কাশীতে বসবাস শুরু করে সকলের ক্ষুধা নিবারণ করতে থাকেন। খবর পেয়ে ক্ষুধার্থ শিব সেখানে অন্ন ভিক্ষা করতে গিয়ে তৎক্ষণাৎ নিজের স্ত্রীকে চিনতে পারেন ও ক্ষমা প্রার্থনা করেন।

এই গল্পে আরও দুটি দেবীর উল্লেখ আছে একই সঙ্গে। সেই গল্প আরেকদিন বলবো। আজ অন্নপূর্ণা পুজো, বাসন্তী পুজোর অষ্টমী। সকলকে শুভেচ্ছা।

Chunks of tender meat simmered in a lentil-based spicy gravy, with a hint of chopped ginger & fresh coriander leaves, this gem founds it's way from far away Middle-East Asia & perfectly incorporated to our Indian culture long ago. Ramadan & Eid feels incomplete in City of joy,Kolkata without this legendary delicacy.

A foggy winter morning outside & a plate of hot, steaming Nihari with Dal Puri infront of you - some pleasures are worth sacrificing sleep for once or twice a year, isn’t it?
Slow-cooked, rich & flavourful, Nihari traces its roots back to late 18th century, originating from Nawabi kitchens of Lucknow. It was traditionally enjoyed by Nawabs & Mughal emperors after their Fajr Namaz.
With time, this royal delicacy made its way from palaces to people’s hearts. Especially among working-class people, Nihari became a cherished way to start the day before long hours of strenuous labour. The red meat like beef or mutton in a rich, flavourful gravy used to provide warmth, strength & lasting energy, perfectly suited for chilly winter mornings. This itself is the reason behind the name ‘Nihari’, derived from Arabic word ‘Nahar’, which means 'morning', reflecting its true purpose & legacy.
