In 3rd place for most popular photo, with 40,000 views on this page is this random shot of Pompey locals

My Dad, Roger Courtney took this photo in the 1970a while photographing a wedding in Baffins, Portsmouth.

These kids weren’t at the wedding but were hanging around the church, they formed a group and asked my dad to take their photo. In a split second this moment in time was captured forever.

All the kids were named on my previous post by our page followers.

Wouldn’t it be great to re-take this photo today. I am totally up for it it anyone wants to round them all up.

My 2nd biggest post on this page to date was photo of the building of Buckland in Portsmouth, which received a massive 54,000 views to date.

1972 The building of Buckland. The council offered to move us from Somerstown and we turned it down.

The second offer was Eastney Farm Road. Our first real family house . We had moved every 2 years approx 8 times since I was born and Eastney Farm Road finally felt like home.

We had already lived In Agincourt Road when we moved back to Portsmouth and didn’t have a great experience there and Buckland was just to close for comfort, but the brand new homes did look pretty good at the time, especially after living a maisonette in a Somerstown in the early 70s.

1960s my dads Aunt Elsie, and his sister Janet and her partner Roy when the obvious match for orange wallpaper was Lemon curtains which probably saved on electricity.

1962 – One of the Coldest Winters Ever… and this is where we lived. This is Pitfolds Farm. About 3 miles inland from Bridport Close to the coast of West Bay

This photo was take. during the brutal winter of 1962 / 1963,when Britain came to a standstill under snow and ice.

No central heating. No shortcuts. Just a farmhouse in the Dorset hills and a winter that didn’t let up .

it was my mums turn to pull me and my sister along in the sleigh and she’s still got a camera around her neck lol.

This was also the last place we lived before moving back to Portsmouth.

👉 Did anyone else live through that winter in Dorset, or remember just how bad it really was?

There was plenty to smile about in the 60s but not on this occasion. Maybe her handbag was too heavy.
