The insect in name is a Golden Tortoise Beetle (Charidotella sexpunctata), also sometimes referred to as a "goldbug".
Here's some information about this fascinating insect:
Appearance: They are known for their striking, mirror-like golden appearance, which can change to a reddish-brown color when the beetle is disturbed or stressed. Their outer shell, or elytra, is expanded and nearly transparent, giving them a distinctive shield-like look.
Size: Adult golden tortoise beetles typically measure between 5–7 millimeters in length.
Habitat and Diet: These beetles are native to the Americas and are commonly found in regions rich in plants from the Convolvulaceae family, such as morning glories, bindweeds, and sweet potatoes, which they feed upon.
Defense Mechanism: When threatened, the golden tortoise beetle can change its color and may also clamp down on a leaf, tucking its legs and antennae under its shell to resemble a harmless bump.
