Kalavayal (meaning “cattle field/market” from kaala - bull and vayal - field) is a traditional, century-old post-harvest festival and cattle fair celebrated in Kakkoor, Kerala, during the Malayalam month of Kumbham (Feb-March). It is renowned for maramadi (bull racing) in muddy, harvested paddy fields.
