This is a wetland created and maintained by group of companies as a green belt near their industry. Every year many species of migratory birds call this place home for 4 months. The water here dries out 80% during the hottest months. Birds like headed goose, Northern Shoveler, Ruddy Shelduck,Northern Pintails, Gargenes, Sandpipers, Plovers, Red and Green shanks, Spoonbill, Stilts, Painted Storks, Egrets, Herons, Kingfishers call this place home. Also there is a patch of land adjoining to it with big trees and many birds like Ashy Wood Swallow, Asian Paradise Flycatcher, Patridges, Bee-eaters, Owls, Orioles, Parakeets, Cuckoo and many more can be seen. But this place in the last 2-3 years is also facing huge pressure from the city limits with people throwing tonnes of garbage at one of the banks and excessive fishing by the locals and cutting of trees for development work along the beach. Also these garbage dumps attract lots of pigs and feral dogs and they threaten the birds and create a lot of disturbance in these waters. We need to act fast and it’s time to give environment the top priority because “Development will make our present better but environment will make our future better”. Re-forestation and Re-wilding is the. Red of the hour. @ Kakinada smart city
