Prayer Flags are use to bless the surroundings by promoting peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. Tibetans believes, the prayers and mantras written on the flags will be blown by the wind as it passes over the surface,
spreads the good will and compassion into all pervading space.
The type of flag shown in the picture is known as Lung Ta. Center of these prayer flag features a Lung Ta (wild horse) bearing three flaming jewels symbolizing the Buddha, the Dharma (Buddhist Teachings) and the Sangha (Buddhist Community).
Images or names of four dignities the dragon, the garuda, the tiger and the snowlion embellish on each corner of the flag.
They are commonly hung on high places such as the top of monasteries, stupas, mountain passes and peaks.
Prayer flags comes in sets of five colors in specific order: blue, white, red, green and yellow.
Each color represents an element: Blue symbolizes the sky and space, white symbolizes the air and wind, red symbolizes fire, green symbolizes water and yellow symbolizes earth.
According to Tibetan medicine, health and harmony are produced through the
balance of the five elements.
