I know what you’re thinking; you’re imaging a pre-adolescent boy, in a theatre where most people would be afraid to place a foot on the ground, casting furtive glances at the rest of the audience, hoping he wouldn’t be recognized. But to me those movies were never about the prurient thoughts they are notorious for, they were about opening up an alternate world, where things weren’t always how we w
ere told they should be, but were instead, whatever we fancied. As is wont to happen, that insightful young boy got lost in the transition to adulthood, and was replaced with pragmatism, expectations, and well, life, until very recently. I could still be an architect designing buildings all day, but I choose not to, because finally, I’m doing what I love. When I’m standing in the middle of a flower market, or capturing the connection between two people, I know that boy from all those years back would be proud. And frankly, given the direction the world is headed, those buildings might be gone the next day, but those moments that I capture, are preserved for posterity. P.S. – If you’re wondering what Sridevi is doing up there, there’s no particular reason- I like her, no, I love her.
